Baby bath recommendations - or bath in the sink?

I was planning to buy the Angelcare Baby Bath, as I like that you put it in the bath and fill up the bath water around it, even though that seems like a bit of a waste/time consuming. I imagine eventually I can bathe with baby which seems lovely.

When I discussed this at my antenatal class, the leader said to save my back and instead use the kitchen sink. But when I mentioned this to my MIL she was horrified!! She thought it was really unhygienic. I told her my sink is thoroughly cleaned regularly (every couple of days) and as we have a dishwasher, we dont really use the sink for washing up (except for some items that cant go in the dishwasher). She then started going on that the sink would be too clean because I use bleach and other chemicals to clean it. I said but I also bleach my bath when cleaning it (approx once a week) and she was horrified at that and told me off, saying that would be terrible for our skin (as if I dont rinse it all away before using ?!)

I'm left with so many questions....
Is it bad to bleach your bath?
Is it gross to wash your baby in the kitchen sink?
Should I get a baby bath still?
Was she just being typically critical MIL?

Shnuggle baths are brilliant and you can get them cheaply on ebay or facebook marketplace. They use very little water (compared to supports like the Angelcare where you still need to run the bath) and the base is small enough that you can sit it in most kitchen sinks- saves your back and limits cleanup if you have a splasher.

I have bathed babies in our kitchen sink out of necessity before and it is hard keeping hold of the slippery little buggers, but no-one has been sick. If there's a poo-plosion surely you give them a wipe down with a babywipe rather that stick them straight in the water?

I had a chair that went in the bath from mothercare it was almost like a bouncer it was brilliant.

Another one who’s a huge fan of the Shnuggle. It’s not expensive to buy, uses very little water (so it’s quick to fill up and easy to check there are no hot spots) and props the baby up beautifully.

@HJWT nope I'd wipe then put them under shower for poo up the back. None of mine have ever poo'd in the bath. I've 3 brothers, we all were washed in sink.

Never had any sort of baby bath. I ran a bath and got in it with DD, or held her in a shallow bath if someone else wanted to bath her.

I really don’t understand all of the drama around needless plastic baby shite.

We don't have a bath, just a shower and I'm expecting our first. I was able to pick up a baby bath and a stand dirt cheap from Aldi, they look really good for the money and as me and DH are pretty tall the stand sounded like a good idea.

I bleach my bath too - surely this is the norm?!?

In hospitals maybe but in the home no.

We used the angel care and would definitely use it for the next one Smile
