Have my waters just broke? Pic TMI

Hi guys,

I'm 32 weeks tomorrow, had intercourse over 2 hours ago.. showered after - no pains or bleeding or anything, sat on the sofa watching a film and I felt a small water of water all over me. Not a lot but certainly not a "dribble".

I didn't wet myself, had no urge to go the toilet and I've since put a pad on but the fluid was clear and doesn't smell of urine

I've attached a picture - do you think this is my waters?

Does it smell sweet at all? Either way, at 32 weeks if you think your waters may have gone please call your midwife/triage unit and please get seen. They will happily check it out and make sure all is okay with baby.

lonelyheartsclubband · 11/08/2019 18:38

You need to ring the maternity ward.

MrsMozartMkII · 11/08/2019 18:39

Call your midwife.

Hope everything goes well.

saffy1234 · 11/08/2019 18:40

Good luck c

Waters smell of bleach/jizz. They reek! They are also every so slightly thicker than water, like a very light slime.

Fwiw I had a pprom at 32 weeks, ds was born perfectly healthy at 33+4.

melissa1215 · 11/08/2019 18:45

I can't get through to any midwives so I'm slightly panicking, no pain or tightening but I'm going to the emergency room now just in case. Silly question, do I bring the pjs with the leakage on them?

OP posts:
Tiredsahm84 · 11/08/2019 18:48

Yes being pjs and put a pad on so they can test

PastTippingPoint · 11/08/2019 18:49

Put a fresh pad on. When you say emergency room, do you mean A&E? It's your maternity assessment unit/triage whatever it is called in your area. If you can't get through on the phone try the main delivery suite and they should be able to transfer you to the right dept.
Agree when your waters go it smells like bleach/semen.

Bwekfusth · 11/08/2019 18:50

@melissa1215 just the photo of the leakage you already have will do

melissa1215 · 11/08/2019 19:23

I got hold of my maternity assessment unit and they told me to come in (I was already on my way there) I have the pic of the leakage and pjs too

Hope you are ok

User3468793 · 11/08/2019 20:36

Good luck! The exact same thing happened to me at 32 weeks (no urge to wee, sudden wet patch in a similar size, no smell and something which looked like a mucus plug). Though it turned out NOT to be amniotic fluid so any outcome is still possible. I'm still mystified about the incident because I didn't have any incontinence before that or since, but I trust the doctors. DD was born by an uneventful ELCS at 38weeks.

melissa1215 · 11/08/2019 20:43

@User3468793 I've not had any more fluid, just waiting to be seen by a doctor to have my cervix checked and then find out more but I'm starting to think maybe it wasn't amniotic fluid as it's not continued to leak

choccybiscuit · 11/08/2019 22:29

I had a small leak first and then a massive gush 12 hours after they first broke do you can have a gap between.

Secret91 · 11/08/2019 22:45

With my daughter and son I had this but a lot less than you it looks like , and never really much else (odd dribble!) they fobbed me off and said nothing, for other reasons luckily!!! I had to have a scan and had no waters so then got induced. In labour I had no waters either, this happened with both pregnancies and I just pushed at them as I had an instinct. Go with your gut I’d say. Good luck and I hope everything goes ok xx

Kewlwife · 11/08/2019 23:04

DISCLAIMER: This isn't advice, just sharing stories.

Something like this happened in my second pregnancy at 34 weeks. They actually did call it a "hind water leak" but told me that they'd just wait and see. I stayed in overnight (it happened about 9pm anyway) and was home about the same time the next day. I had a few weekly antenatal appointments until about 36/40 but other than that just got on as normal until I went into labour.

At birth, the paediatrician wanted go start antibiotics because I had a temperature when I first came in (it was hot, I walked there in labour) and it went after I had a shower and she was concerned my waters could have broken for a long time (obstetricians didn't agree and were fine with me in the MLU) so I declined antibiotics but they did come and do regular observations for a day but I was so fed up I discharged myself that day. All observations were completely normal since birth and DC fed like a dream (so different to 1st).

How did you get on OP?

Starlight84 · 12/08/2019 15:42

Just been reading this thread and I am curious to know all is well @melissa1215 xx

melissa1215 · 12/08/2019 18:22

Hi everyone!!

I was in hospital for a while, turns out it wasn't my waters - the swab tested negative for amniotic fluid but I found out I have really bad thrush.

They had no idea why I leaked, I'm assuming I must've peed although it didn't seem like urine or look or smell like it.

They checked baby and he's fine, very active. No signs of anything else other than a bit mortified to be told I had thrush as I've had no symptoms and had no idea and embarrassed a consultant took time out of their busy night because I thought my waters had broke

Other than a bit of embarrassment, I'm fine thankfully and baby Is fine too

Thanks for all your help xxx

Good for okay.

Don't be embarrassed. You weren't to know and the medics would rather check than not.

User3468793 · 12/08/2019 18:38

Good the hear that! Sounds identical to my experience and honestly a bit of embarrassment is way more preferable than having baby too early. Hope he’ll stay warm and comfy inside for another 8 weeks!

Starlight84 · 12/08/2019 19:11

What a relief! I’m glad all is well. Thrush is awful. I’m battling at the mo after a course of antibiotics 🙄 xx
