Sleep bags or??

We have bought a Moses basket for my little one to sleep in for the first few months.

I know they can't sleep with blankets etc so is a sleep bag the only option? Or is there alternatives?

First time mum and clueless 😁

Why no blankets? Do you mean no duvets? Baby blankets are fine, especially in a Moses basket, you just tuck the sides in. Sleeping bags can sometimes be too big for newborns depending on their weight, but you can use them eventually and they’re great.

Highly recommend sleep bags. Other options are a blanket tucked in and swaddling. In my experience, once you start swaddling it's bloody hard to stop when they start rolling etc. Sleep bags are great when they move about loads. We used sleep bags pretty much from about 1 month with DS as he always kicked blanket off. Glad we did as dsil is now in a pickle as her DS won't have a sleeping bag as it holds him in too much and he isn't used to it but wriggles so much in his sleep a blanket won't stay on.

Blankets are fine - you need cellular ones.

I swaddled at first using ready made swaddles (swaddle me I think they’re called) then used sleeping bags. Sleeping bags are great!

Sleeping bags are great. Mine were too small for them till about 6 weeks and it was so much more hassle faffing with blankets till then

We started with blankets until baby was big enough for sleeping bags.they have to be a certain weight normally

Most people use cellular blankets for newborns.

You have to wait until your baby's head is big enough not to go through the neck gap when using a sleeping bag. Usually 6 weeks old. A blanket tucked in is fine to use until then

We had a newborn sleeping bag for babies between 5 and 12lbs. www.gro-store.com/baby-stars-newborn-gro-snug.html

Thanks ladies! I will be stocking up on cellular blankets!

Depends on the size of your baby. Tiny DS1 was in a sleep suit and blanket for a while. Chunky DS2 was straight in a sleeping bag.

Sleeping bags are the best invention! My daughter was (still is) such a wriggler in her sleep that a blanket would have never stayed on! For the first 2/3 months, we used a swaddle type sleeping bag.. I think it was called a swaddleup, so their arms are up by the side of their head but all zipped in. Worked a treat as she used to wake herself up by startling herself!

The Gro-Snugs are great because you have them as arms-in swaddles or arms out like sleep bags. Expensive though.

I used swaddle me wraps for about 6-8 weeks and then sleeping bags up until about they were 15 months old.
