I have one and I'm 16+4 and easily find a heart beat however I am aware sometimes they are difficult to pick up until you're further along. If you're a worrier, I wouldn't recommend 😊

I have also used one and I find it very handy to have to help me relax - although I only used it from about 14 weeks as I had such bad anxiety between my 12 and 20 week scans. I have never had an issue finding a heartbeat but I think you need to buy a decent one (I know a friend who has a very cheap one and struggles to find the heart beat sometimes which can cause a lot of anxiety).

Please note they are not recommended by medical professionals and if you feel reduced movement you should always go and get it checked out even if you hear a heartbeat.

It has been a very valuable tool for me but I don't use it much now that I can feel baby move (it was basically to get me from 12-20 weeks and to prevent me from spending lots of money on extra private scans!). It's really down to personal choice Smile

The advice from medical professionals is to avoid them. You might think you're picking up baby's heartbeat but without proper training it could well be your own, even trained midwives can't always find a heartbeat with a Doppler at 16 weeks.

They are a massive risk imo, I know what it's like worrying but honestly don't waste your time and money. official NHS guidance is not use them too.

They are considered dangerous because it takes training to be able to differentiate between the baby’s / placenta’s / maternal heartbeat. Stillbirths have been caused because women have been using dopplers to assure themselves but in reality the heartbeat they picked up was not the baby’s. You need to focus on movements instead. Start getting to know the baby’s routine and what’s normal and that should help you - Kicks Count by the NHS is a great app
