Any home remedies to clear up trush in third trimester??

Hello! Going slightly mad after five days in trush hell. Since day three I've been using yoghurt down there as my sister who gets it quite frequently says that that works the best, and being pregnant, I'm not keen on using any thing with medicine. Anyone have any other tips on what could potentially help? Am on a beach holiday so am sure the heat/wet bathing suit is not helping but we're here till Wednesday so I don't see us doing much else till then. If anyone has any miracle home cures/remedies, I'm willing to try anything! Also, how long does it usually last? First time I've had it in pregnancy... I'm on day 5 now, and currently 30 weeks.

I think you can still use a pessary but have to insert it with your fingers rather than the applicator you get with it.

You also have to get a prescription from dr or midwife as the pharmacist won't give it to you if you're pregnant!

Sorry, just totally missed the bit where you said you don't want to use medicine! Sorry, ignore my post!

I used canestan cream. Just went in boots and paid for it at normal till. Cleared it in 4 days.

Thanks for the replies! Ok, I'll continue with the yoghurt and if it doesn't clear up may need to use canestan cream as well.

I used coal tar soap for my thrush in the first trimester and it worked! Didn't need any medication for it. I now keep a spare bar in the bathroom just in case it reoccurs again. Be warned that the soap smells very strong though!

Thanks never heard of that! Will check it out

The fastest way is 1 tablet.

Check first because you are pregnant.
In the old days we used to use a canestan cream and vaginal pessary.
I've been dealing with thrush for 40 years

Yeah in pregnancy they say not to take the tablet so unfortunately it's the cream or home remedies.. after 6 days it seems to be getting better so fingers crossed it goes away soon!

I know you are using yogurt and don't want to state the obvious, but, are you sure it's one what has lots of live cultures , as lots of yogurts are not live ?

allabouteve1 · 11/08/2019 09:48

Use a pessary. I had thrush a lot during my third pregnancy and the doctor gave me a prescription for the pessaries. I am very anti medicine when pregnant but the hell that is thrush isn't going to be cleared up by a bit of yogurt.

secretlyhermione · 11/08/2019 10:55

@victoriabun yep am using one with live culture. @allabouteve1 yes I think I'm closer to getting the cream as it's not going away (although it's already a lot better) and looks like the cream is safe to use in pregnancy. Am also over this agony at this point!!

Being pregnant you must get it prescribed from your doctor just to be safe. I used the pessary when I was 38 weeks I think....yelled down to my husband NOT to come up stairs while I figured out how to shove it up there with my huge pregnant belly 😂. I'd been advised it can cause issues to leave it too long while pregnant (unsafe to have it during labour) so something to consider if you do go the medicine route.

Bethlats · 11/08/2019 19:24

I was prescribed the pessary yesterday by a GP. She said it was safe for me to use whilst pregnant - the oral tablet isn’t - but to insert it with a finger, not the applicator.

Hermagsjesty · 11/08/2019 19:26

Coconut oil worked for me, I wasn’t pregnant at the time though, so maybe double check. Sympathies, thrush is grim at the best of times!

secretlyhermione · 11/08/2019 20:42

Thanks all! I've gotten the pessary and will be using that. I've actually heard that if you have it during labour and give it to the baby it's not dangerous as they have remedies now to ensure the baby is fine. But obviously wouldn't want this to happen!! Thanks for all the help, looks like there are some sufferers here. It's such a pain!

@bethlats how long will you be taking it for? I'm no in the UK and the prescription says 3-4 weeks which seems like ages!

Have you also tried changing your diet? You probably know all that already but thrush is caused by candida albicans and those feed off sugar, yeast, carbs, processed foods etc.

Good luck!

Apple cider vinegar worked for me when I was pregnant! Run a warm shallow bath and put 2 cups in and soak for 15-20 minutes. It’s supposed to help restore acidity levels Smile

Vix20678 · 11/08/2019 21:09

Coconut oil is miraculous for thrush! It clears mine up so quickly and it’s easy and less wet and cold than yoghurt!

Bethlats · 11/08/2019 21:50

I’ve had one pessary to use and then cream. The instructions say it takes 1-2 days to feel improvement externally, and another day or two to feel it internally. The doctor said to get swabs done if I didn’t see any improvement after 3 days. I’ve had thrush before I was pregnant , many times, but I’ve never felt like this! It feels like my insides are coming out!!
