Aspirin

So I’ve been under a consultant due to a heart block I have but she’s happy to discharge me back to MW (currently 22+3). Yesterday when I saw her she asked if I’d been started on Aspirin due to my BMI - I haven’t. She mentioned it would be low dose and she would give me a prescription for it and that it may cause bleeding?? I think it’s to help prevent preeclampsia? I should have asked more questions but didn’t think at the time and actually left without a prescription as well. However, so far my pregnancy has been really good and everything has been great and I’ve had very little symptoms ... it’s making me a bit concerned about tampering with something that so far isn’t broken and that may actually cause problems (such as the bleeding).
Has anyone else had experience of this? I’m thinking I may speak to my midwife as I’m so concerned over it. Thanks

I’ve taken aspirin since the beginning of my pregnancy for recurrently miscarriage, and will continue to take after 12 weeks for my BMI.

It is a very small dose (1/4 of a standard 300mg tablet) once a day. I noticed I bruised a little easier for a few weeks but nothing major, the size of my thumb and didn’t hurt. Can protect against pre-eclampsia but also lower risk of clots and lung embolisms etc which BMI increases your risk off.

At the end of the day, you don’t have to take it, they can’t force you, but they’ve also suggested it for a reason.

You can buy it over the counter - a months worth (75mg tablets) for 40p, so it’s really not that dangerous.

Thank you for replying. I think I was just taken by surprise with it that’s all. Thank you ☺️

I'm on aspirin this pregnancy due to having developed pregnancy induced hypertension at the end of my first pregnancy. I'm taking 150mg per day as my consultant agrees with new studies which show 75mg as ineffective.

I do bleed little more if I cut myself etc, as aspirin is a blood thinner. Nothing major though. I buy my own despite being prescribed it as it costs me far, far less to buy than it does the NHS to provide it on prescription.

I’m on aspirin; I started at 8 weeks due to recurrent MCs in the past, and now as I am expecting twins I am also high-risk for pre-eclampsia so continuing for that. As above, I’ve also been put on 150mg dispensable aspirin daily - if you’re unsure about it all maybe call your midwife just for some clarity, but I’d definitely start taking it. I also notice now that I bruise a little easier but it’s nothing extreme! Good luck with your pregnancy x

I’m on low dose aspirin due to age in pregnancy, 75mg to reduce preeclampsia risk.
It is standard issue here for various risk factors-in my case being over 40.
No extra bleeding here-I have Gestational diabetes too and trying to get blood out is still a challenge!

I've been taking baby aspirin since before conception and will continue until close to delivery. I take it for RPL, like Keyboard I noticed I bruised easily for a few weeks - no other noticeable side effects, no bleeding whatsoever.

In my area they risk assess every pregnant women at the booking in appt and prescribe aspirin from there if deemed higher risk of preeclampsia.

Ah thank you for all the replies. I’ll definately chase it up then as I left without a prescription (think we both forgot) and she never specified a dose so will need to know how much I would need to take.
