Hey everyone,

I'm really looking for some advice because I just don't understand what is going on right now. I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant and 3 evenings ago dh & I dtd which very quickly lead to me spotting. I ended up in hospital for a check up but all was good so they sent me home. The whole day on Tuesday I passed huge globs of bloody mucus (100% characteristic of bloody show) along with having quite severe menstrual type cramping and pressure in my lower back, I ended up back in hospital in the delivery suite on an observation machine which showed I was having frequent uterine tightenings which I was informed was an irritable uterus and that as painful and frustrating as it is, it doesn't cause cervix to dilate. baby still happy and all stats looking good I had a scan which ruled out any placenta bleeding and then an internal where the consultant said she could see lots of old blood but couldn't see exactly where from. Fast forward to today and I have passed a huge amount of mucus with old brown blood and cramps are definitely getting more intense. I am needing to urinate every 15 minutes or so which is causing huge discomfort due to the pressure on my bladder and I am just exhausted.

The midwife has explained to me that my cervix was unchanged and that it wasn't my bloody show and likely a burst blood vessel but I can't understand why my body expelled something identical to a bloody show over 3 days and if i'm going to continue getting these mild contractions for potentially the next 5+ weeks because if so I am likely to go insane.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any advice would be hugely appreciated. xx

I haven’t but just wanted to say - don’t doubt yourself and, when you need to, stand your ground with the midwife and get a second opinion.

My midwife bossed me around with my first and I wish I’d stood up to her.

Good luck x

It could have been a bloody show but it still doesn't mean you are going to go into labour imminently. You can lose bits of your plug all the way through pregnancy, I did both times.

You were right i shouldn't have doubted myself. I went into labour on Friday and he was born at 3:22am the Saturday. 😄

We do know our own bodies for sure. X

Go back to the hospital to get checked - do they have an ante-natal triage you can phone? Just because all was ok on Tuesday, doesn’t mean that all is ok today. More discharge and tightening could easily have made a difference, and it’s always better to get checked than leave it to chance.
