No sugar in urine but gestation diabetes being reconsidered?

I had a GTT at 28 weeks which was negative for diabetes. All my urine samples have been fine for sugars. However I’m being sent for another GTT as baby is measuring over 95th percentile according to scans. Can anyone explain how likely this is to be a factor if my urine samples are fine? And why it wouldn’t show in urine but would in a GTT?
I wasn’t worried but now I am. I’ve been eating quite a lot of sweet things and now feel so guilty.

My urine samples were always fine, even after I’d been diagnosed with GD 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hope you don’t have it, but if you do, it’s easy to control through diet - I found if cut out anything with gluten in my blood sugars were ok and I didn’t have to go on any medication.

I also had gd (diagnosed late due to a growth scan for an unrelated reason) and i never had sugar in my urine. Mine was managed through diet but not everyone can.

One of the reasons you could have a big baby is that you could have GD, the sugar is being passed to the baby, in response the baby is producing more insulin which is a growth hormone, hence the baby is growing more than it should. So it could be that you have GD but I don't know why the gtt didn't show it, unless GD developed later.

I ended up with 3 GTT, despite only having trace sugar in my urine once (after a sugary breakfast). I was measuring very big which is why I kept being sent. Turns out I was just full of water, baby was 7lb6 when born at 39 weeks. When they broke my waters in hospital it was like Niagra! I lost a stone and a half between getting to hospital and getting home, so a stone off that must have been water. Go for the test, drink the yucky stuff, but don't worry too much.

Thanks all, that’s helpful. Fingers crossed

I had GD blood sugars weren't going down on diet so was put on 3x metformin a day to help that. The only plus side of having GD is you get extra scans so can see bubba more ☺️. I got induced at 38 weeks as this is when they like to induce at my hospital with GD. My LO weighed 7lb 2oz not everyone has big babies with GD x

My bump was off the chart(I'm only little)! I have a family history of type 1 so they didn't believe I didn't have GD, I had 4 GTTs! A few.blood tests and a growth scan, all my results where perfect Grin I just have a good placenta. He was 8lb 10oz at 37 weeks! (And a super easy delivery unlike his big brother)

That's the whole point of the GTT though @FairyDust92 - they put you on Metformin so what I described above didn't happen. It probably would have done without that and you most likely would have had a bigger baby.
