Cyclogest & Aspirin

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to ask those who are taking aspiring and cyclogest, until what weeks have you been asked to take both? I have to take 75mg aspirin and 400mg cyclogest twice a day.

My doc initially told me to take both until week 28, but then called me and asked me to take Aspirin until week 32 but cyclogest only until week 15...he said the baby's placenta is fully formed by then so cyclogest isn't needed beyond that. I'm just a bit sceptical as he's suddenly changed his mind. Hubby said to continue taking them but I don't pointlessly want to take them if they're not needed.

I'm on the 75mg of aspirin once daily and have been told to keep taking it until birth. I started taking it at 12 weeks.

I'm on 150mg of aspirin told to take up to 36 weeks xx

rm15 · 07/08/2019 21:44

150mg till 36weeks for me to. I was worried as I had spoken to a few people who were not offered the screening and had not heard of the aspirin. But I've read a lot and it's widely accepted just not adopted by every trust.

Cyclogest until 12 weeks and aspirin all the way to the end

SleeplessinEastSussex · 08/08/2019 02:16

Taking both until 36 weeks

GlamGiraffe · 08/08/2019 02:21

Cyclogest until week 12. Asprin until birth. But if you have the cyclogest it won't hurt to take it longer if it makes you feel better. I was happy to stop the stuff as soon as i safely could do so.

Thanks everyone for your replies....I should have mentioned I've had 2 missed miscarriages before, so with this 3rd pregnancy the doctor said they'd put me on Aspirin and Cyclogest. It seems to be helping.

@Shaunieh95 @rm15 @SleeplessinEastSussex

Hi ladies, not sure how far along you are now or if you've had your babies. I've been told to stop aspiring at week 36 too. Just curious to know if you've had your babies and at what week.

I guess I am just worried about the weeks 36-40 (or whenever baby is born after this period) when I am not taking not taking the apsirin.

Hi!
I'm 30+5 now and I'm still planning on stopping at 36 - I imagine the instruction will come at my 36 week scan? I thought I would check with my midwife at my 32 week appointment though.
Good luck! Sending positive vibes xx

justchecking1 · 11/11/2019 09:45

There's some (very vey tiny) risk you the baby of taking aspirin in the last few

justchecking1 · 11/11/2019 09:46

Weeks of pregnancy, so if the benefits don't out weigh this then you're asked to stop. It entirely depends why you're on it as to whether this is the case, but stopping at 36 weeks is a valid clinical decision

AR23 · 11/11/2019 10:09

@rm15 thanks for getting back to me :) I wish you all the best. Ah I don't have any more scans now and my midwife just said to follow what docs said.

@justchecking1 The consultant who prescribed this to me has left the practice so it's been a bit tricky for me to re-confirm / ask questions about why I should stop at 36 weeks and not continue all the way till birth. The only bit of info I remember him saying earlier on was: if you go into labour after 36 weeks and are still taking aspirin it has some effect on the bleeding (really can't remember what he said....maybe there is a risk of too much bleeding?)

I didn't have any tests done before being put on aspirin (or cyclogest), he just recommended it to me because of two miscarriages before which happened at 8 weeks and were silent ones. Normally you have to have had 3 miscarriages before being examined/tested. Midwife said aspirin is usually given if your blood is a bit too thick or sticky, to help thin it out so that it reaches baby.

Yes, aspirin thins the blood and can increase bleeding risk. Also NSAIDs in the last few weeks can increase the chance of one of the blood vessels in the baby's heart not closing as it should.
