Iron levels

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows much about iron level ranges when pregnant. I had my bloods done around 3 weeks ago at 28 weeks. For the past week or so I keep having moments of feeling faint, coming over sweaty and feeling really weak so was thinking maybe it's my iron. Having looked back at my bloods, all my red blood count/iron level is on the very low side of normal. Could this cause these symptoms? I find it odd that nothing was said to me from my midwife seeing as my hct level was below what it should be. What do you think? I have attached my results x

They do use lower cut offs for pregnant women (115 as opposed to 119) for haemoglobin but you are at the lower end of that too. I was low at the first blood test (and definitely quite low for me as I had values from a year prior when not pregnant so I knew what my baseline was) and symptomatic so self-treated with iron tablets (the same dose as in Pregnacare as I wasn't taking that as I was already on separate vitamins - my GP said anything up to the dose in pregnancy specific vitamins was fine to self treat) and after about 2 weeks I did start to feel better. The midwife at my next appointment agreed that it seemed the right thing to do.

If you're symptomatic though I would definitely query it with them and sooner rather than later as iron supplements take a while to kick in!

@Weathergirl1 thank you, I'm seeing the midwife Thursday so will mention it to her then. I do take pregnacare and I believe it's the only thing that's keeping me in range. All my bloods taken at my 12 week bloods were all at the higher end so have dropped massively x

Yeah it's not uncommon. Its also perfectly fine to start taking something like spatone. You don't have to wait for it to be prescribed or anything. It may or may not make you feel any better.

I felt better when my haemoglobin was 74 (after giving birth) than I did when it was 96 during pregnancy, so the exact level might not quite sync up with the symptoms you experience.

If you have any symptoms, treat it!

My iron had dropped to 122 at my booking in bloods (and dropped to 850 ISH at my 28 weeks bloods with DD1) so my midwife suggested taking liquid iron on top of my pregnancy vitamins. I think it has made a difference - maybe try that?

Gah - dropping to 8 something not 850.

I had this, my blood pressure was also low or just on the normal side of low. I was feeling dizzy and fainted a few times.

Had bloods done doctors said my hemaglobin levels were low. Asked when I saw midwife a few days later she said they are low but we measure differently in pregnancy so it's not low enough to need iron tablets. She mentioned going below 10.5 and I was 11.

You're within range.
They give ferrous sulphate tablets if you're below 105.
I dropped to 82 and had an iron infusion which has brought me back up to threshold.
