Advice please. Last night my husband made steak he had his medium & i had mine well done but the tongs he used to pick up his steak he used the same ones on the chips & i ate some of the chips so worried any of the juices went on them, my question is do u think im at risk of toxoplasmosis as ive been worrying all night or am i totally being a crazy pregnant woman?x

There's no risk, the tongs touched the outside of his steak which was fully cooked.

PixieLumos · 04/08/2019 11:47

No - even if you ate a whole rare steak you would most likely be fine.

PixieLumos · 04/08/2019 11:48

It’s about risk prevention - the guidelines don’t mean that if you eat anything on the list of things to avoid something bad is sure to happen. It’s still very unlikely. Please relax Smile

I always feel exasperated at all these posts hyperventilating over some minor food issue. Tongs touching chips? Might have eaten brie, accidentally consumed an unwashed carrot... Or whatever.

Now i have given up on steak basically because i like mine to be so rare that it is still bleeding and see no point in having it if otherwise. So i am following most of the rules... Mostly i have just cut it down. I wash all my vege anyway but I'm not going to freak out if i go out and haven't seen the chef wash my salad.

The issue isn't the food. You can't live through 40 weeks of pregnancy and freak out about everything you eat.

Eating rare meat doesn't harm your baby. It's about risk management. As someone else said.

I suggest that you nip this anxiety in the bud. Read a few books. (Expecting Better is one i read, i didn't agree with everything but it's a good start) to educate yourself a bit more. If you have a better understanding you'll feel less anxious.

And begging anxious is by far worse for you and baby than the possibility of atinsy but of rare meat on a chip.

Also, I'm pretty sure the NHS guidelines say that steak doesn't have to be fully cooked. There's really a very very small risk so long as the outside has been cooked. I've kept eating medium rare steaks throughout pregnancy.

@fonxey
Not a particularly empathetic response. Pretty sure telling an anxious woman that the worst thing she can be is anxious is possibly the most unhelpful thing to say.

@Angelinthenightx
Weirdly, last night my boyfriend had really rare steak and it was sitting on top of his chips, and I ate loads of his chips. I'm not worried in the slightest because the way I see it is everything is a risk, but the likelihood of rare steak being a problem is so so minimal.

Angelinthenightx · 04/08/2019 12:58

Thanks jem, i have lost a baby at 20wks had more babies since then but this time around ive been more worried.
U have made me feel better, thanks for your kind words.x

If only anxiety was as easy as just 'nipping it in the bud'. If you want to tell someone to educate themselves some more then it's probably best to do so without showing some major ignorance in your own post.

@Angelinthenightx- I’m suffering with anxiety. I’ve had a loss before and I think it just heightens worry at an already worrying and scary time.
I’ve had numerous trips to GP and blood pressure etc all ok. Baby growing well so it’s been reassuring to know he’s happy in there. If you ever need to talk don’t be afraid to message 💜
