Miscarriage what to do

2 days ago I had two very faint lines on a pregnancy test and therefore believed to be pregnant as I have heard it doesn’t matter how faint they are if the lines are there then it’s a positive. They where do faint I didn’t quite believe it, and was considering doing another test in 1 weeks time. However now I have started cramping and I am bleeding heavier than usual but nothing that would scare me.. I suffer from extreme anxiety and don’t really want to go to the doctors and I also don’t believe it would be right to go to a hospital because I’m still not utterly convinced I am/was pregnant. If anyone can advise me on what to do going forward and weather if this is a miscarriage if I can let it happen naturally at home? TIA

I'm sorry to hear this. How late were you? If quite close it could be a chemical pregnancy which I think will be like a period xx

Suggest you speak to your GP. They should be able to refer you for a scan.

I will only be currently 16days pregnant if I am pregnant I was 7 days late to this day... obviously it’s not nice but the circumstances were not great, I would of kept the baby but I was in a state of shock for the past 2 days then this has happened, a chemical pregnancy? Does that mean the pregnancy will come away naturally? And I really don’t want a scan that will upset me too much

The thing is that bleeding and cramping can be a normal part of pregnancies. It could also be the first sign of an ectopic pregnancy in the early days. The scan can check if the embryo is in the right place and whether it’s just a sac (and therefore a miscarriage) or viable.

It’s definitely a period. The cramping is bad but blood loss is heavy but not what I would describe as abnormal More than usual but just not a scary amount. Should I just go to the hospital then do you think

Sorry youre going through this.

You need to get it checked out. You could go to your GP or phone your local hospital which should have a bleeding in early pregnancy (or similarly named) unit. Second option would be quicker. You can ask their advice over the phone.

It could be a very early miscarriage which they class as a chemical pregnancy. It shouldn't get worse than what you've described and they will probably tell you to manage at home and maybe do another pregnancy test in a week to confirm. There is also a chance it is bleeding in very early pregnancy so you need to find out.

Thank you for your advice I spoke to 111 an they told me to contact GP but That’s not even an option at the moment! I would of thought it was just a period had I not taken a test 2days prior. I’m in a state of shock at the minute and just would rather stay at home and hope that everything will be okay shortly 🙁

If your local hospital has an urgent care centre, go there. They can usually sort most things out that a GP can.

I really wouldn't bother with hospital (trust me - I've had 5 miscarriages from 5 weeks to 12 weeks) - this sounds brutal but there really isn't anything they can do and just takes up resource and wastes your time during what is already an emotional time - you'll be sat in a&e for hours bleeding - most likely they won't refer you straight to EPU as it's Friday night and the sonographers will have finished for the weekend and they will just book you in for a scan in a few days by which time it will most likely be over - the fact your having quite heavy bleeding suggests it's not ectopic

I'd wait it out in the comfort of your own hole with paracetamol with codeine on standby

  • take lots of warm baths to relax the muscles

Only think about hospital if you are filling a pad quicker than every 15 mins

I had a chemical pregnancy a number of years ago. Same as you, late period, positive test and then my normal (albeit heavy) period a few days later. My 'period' was a week late by the time the bleeding started.

I called my GP who was rather blasé, and told me to test again in a few weeks and only to contact them if this test was positive or anything untoward happened with the bleeding.

It all happened with no issues. Or any medical appointments. Like you, the pregnancy was bad timing and I felt a bit of relief and then a bit of sadness for feeling relieved.

I hope you feel ok.
