"Borderline" gestational diabetes?

Hi, has anyone been told they are "borderline" for gestational diabetes?

I'm 29 weeks and had my GTT the other day. Fasting glucose was fine, but 2 hours after having the sugary drink the result was 7.3. It apparently should be under 7.8.
I was told that its a borderline result and that the diabetes team "may or may not" contact me. (helpful lol)

Anyone else borderline GD and received treatment for it?

The reason I had the test is because my father has type 2 diabetes.

Do you mean your result was 8.3? I had something very similar and it turned out to be IGT (Impaired Glucose Tolerance) which I had before the pregnancy. My Hb1ac was within normal range but the one hour sugar was borderline high. Most doctors choose to err on the side of safety so even if you have a very borderline number, you will still be sent down the GD treatment path. I had to test blood sugars 4x a day for two weeks and keep a diary. I managed to keep the numbers stable with a low carb diet so I was allowed to test more sporadically after that and didn't need any further treatment.

However my numbers stayed the same after birth and after loads of testing and 2 more OGTTs it turned out I actually have an impaired reaction to glucose. I just need to be a bit careful with what I eat (avoiding white carbs and pure sugar) but I'm otherwise healthy and most likely never had GD. Even though it was big hassle, I don't regret the false-diagnosis of GD as I really cleaned up my lifestyle and eating habits as a result.

Unfortunately it's impossible to know during pregnancy whether you have IGT, IGF (impaired fasting glucose), pre-diabetes or gestational diabetes because the placental hormones affect blood sugar. So you have to wait until the post partum GTT to get a definitely answer. Good luck!
