Near fainting spell at the bank

Hello everyone,

I'm 13 weeks and 6 days today and I was at the bank waiting in line when all of a sudden I felt my vision start to go black and the sounds became slightly distorted. I felt my body going weak and broke out into sweat. I had to take a few deep breaths and then started fanning myself while leaning on one of the posts. It went after a while but I feel really exhausted.

I've been to the doctors and he said it was a migraine and to find out what triggered it.

What do you think could have been the cause? Has anyone else ever experienced this while expecting?

Thank you

Hi, yes I had this with DS at around 20 weeks and thereafter on and off.
Also experiencing it now with DC2 and I’m 22 weeks with fatigue.
Each time I was low on iron and blood pressure so I was given an iron supplement on top of what I already take and just had to keep drinking water to keep the blood pressure up.
Could well be a migraine but I’d probably ring your midwife and just see what she says. She might want you to do another blood test to cover all bases. Hope you feel better soon x

Just sounds like you fainting to be honest. It happens to me everytime I stand still in a hot room. I'm a nurse and every single time I'm on a doctors round I faint at the moment. I get this feeling like I cant concentrate at all and then feel really clammy and sick and then pass out. I'm impressed at you managing to come round standing up...I always have to sit down with my head between my legs. Then I'm mortified for a good half a day as I'm in a room with people who are actually sick!

Sounds like fainting to me. I have this even when not pregnant as I have baseline low bp. Was related to low iron when I was younger too. Gp has never really been too fussed as whilst high bp can result in various health conditions low bp can’t really make you I’ll aside from a faint and banging your head. Like someone else mentioned drink shedloads of water as that keeps your bp up. I had a similar episode yesterday morning (7 weeks pg)- ended up lay on the bathroom floor sweating profusely and realised I hadn’t drank much owing to constant nausea. I’d definitely inform your midwife though in case they need to check your iron levels. Like someone else said I’m mightily impressed you managed to bring yourself back without sitting down. Oh and yes every time I’ve fainted I’m absolutely wiped out for the rest of that day.

Whilst pregnant this happened to me with places with no natural light and harsh artificial light. So supermarkets, Boots and Primark were banned until i gave birth.

Wow, so many responses. Thank you everyone.

@LouH1981 thank you I will speak to my midwife tomorrow morning.

@Jent13c I'm rather surprised I felt this way because the AC was on and it was quite cool in the bank. And I was even more surprised when I broke out into a heavy sweat in a cool room. Hmm

@Ibizababyy I feel a bit surprised myself to be honest. I just didn't want to panic and make it worse for myself because I know that if I panic I probably would fall and I didn't want to hurt myself or baby.

@popcorndiva Oh, I didn't think of it like that. And it's also full of people too and frankly I don't like the feeling of being jammed tight like a sardine in a tin. So it might have been a combination of the unnatural light and the amount of people that were there. Well now I know to not go to the bank on a Monday afternoon

Hi!
I’ve had this a couple of times in my life not pregnant, as people have posted before, for me it was slightly low bp, low iron and dehydration!
Keep a bottle of water with you at all times! And you may want to take an iron supplement! Hope you’re okay!!

Happy4ever88 · 30/07/2019 09:35

@TTc2019BabyNo1 Thank you for your message. I will check my iron levels as I was told that I had a little bit of iron deficiency anaemia just 3 weeks before I found out I was pregnant. Although it was only 0.2 lower than what my normal level should be I was told to take supplements which I took for a while before switching my diet to a more iron rich one. I get soo constipated though Confused

I had similar symptoms and was found to have low blood sugar. So I have to carry a snack around with me and avoid white carbs

PixieLumos · 30/07/2019 10:21

I got this once - I think a combination of being too warm and not having enough to eat. Keep snacks and water in your bag.

Happy4ever88 · 31/07/2019 01:53

@marinova I think that might have triggered my migraine/near fainting spell

@PixieLumos you're both right. I'm going to have to keep snacks with me wherever I go.... I'm going to need a bigger bag
