Breech baby at 38weeks +3 days

I am currently 38+3 days pregnant and last Sunday had a small bump in car so went in to get checked. Everything was fine but they wanted to do an growth scan as the measurement was less than my midwife had recorded on last visit. We went in for growth scan to discover baby breech despite midwife saying she was head down. We’d gone for a private scan at 34weeks where they said she was breech but when I told midwife she said she must have turned as she wasn’t but to me she is still in the same position she was then so she’s been like this a while!

I opted for an ECV on Wednesday but it didn’t work so got another one next week when I’ll be 39+2.

This is my first so I’m told very unlikely she will move on her own . I didn’t want a section really more so the aftermath but obviously don’t want to put baby or myself through unnecessary risk and looks like she must just be comfy this way !

I think I’m starting to get my head round more than likely be a section at this late stage but has anyone else been the same and the baby moved?

Similarly to you had the ECV at 38+5 and she didn’t move. The consultant said there was no way she was budging so I had the section at 38+6 as they were worried it looked like my labour was beginning.

I know that’s not the happy story you wanted to hear, but it IS a happy story as the section was wonderful, baby was healthy, managed to breastfeed and had a VBAC for my second Smile yes the recovery’s a bit trickier, but you’ll get through it. It’s difficult readjusting from something you’ve been preparing for for 9 months but honestly, in a couple of months how he/she came out won’t matter at all. Good luck and enjoy your little one x

No it is definitely a happy story Smile that’s the most important thing that she gets here safely and healthy.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there planning something for 9months to be told it’s likely to be different is prob what I’m struggling to re-adjust to , especially at this late stage!

I am worried I am cutting it fine at 39+2 for a second go and wondering if I should have just booked in for a section, but hey-ho you never know she might do a midnight flip before then ha! x

Sorry to hear your birth may not work out as you’d expected/hoped OP. Just chipping in, for what it’s worth, to say that out of all the many many c section ladies I have met along the way of 2 DC, those that had emergency c sections with number 1 and elective with number 2 say there is just no comparing the 2, and that an elective section - and recovery from one (as it doesn’t come at the end of 24-48 hours exhausting labour) was a much much more pleasant experience than they had feared.

Hope the second ECV is successful, but if it isn’t then I hope you feel less trepidation over a section if it comes to it. All the best and congratulations.

I didn't have a breech baby but my baby decided to go back to back at 38 weeks 🤨 didn't know until I delivered x

Elf88 · 27/07/2019 09:32

Thank you! Yes I’ve heard that whole experience of elective c-sections much better than emergency. I think that’s prob my panic that if I was to go into labour now I’d end up emergency !

Oh no! What happened? Did you manage to deliver naturally ?

@Elf88 not sure if your question was to me but I'll answer anyway 😂.
Yes I did deliver naturally without any interventions (thank goodness).
Baby's heart rate kept going down then up so they put those little pins I want to call them in his head. Not sure if that's what they are but it gave a more accurate reading of his heartbeat as kept loosing it on the other machine 😥. Doctor outside noticed his heartbeat was going up and down and examined me and explained he was back to back but he managed to turn him! But even though I was saying I have back pain they just kept fobbing me off telling me it's normal to have back pain in labour, it was my bloody contractions in my back 😂😂

Elf88 · 27/07/2019 12:09

@FairyDust92 haha yes it was still getting hang of this! Oh god- yes that’s the thing you trust in these people don’t you! Good job the Dr noticed! Glad he arrived safely 😊

@Elf88 thank you ☺️ hope everything goes well for you and as smooth as possible c

I'm sorry to hear your birth may not be as expected. But it's not the worst thing, I promise.

I would try 'spinning babies' (have a look on google). My friend had a breech baby and a section planned at 39 weeks. She went in that morning etc and was being prepped. Baby moved on his own overnight. She then had successful vaginal delivery 4 days later :) !

Not everyone's babies turn but some do! Book your section and expect that to be the case but try spinning babies etc in the meantime :)!

I hope all goes well and it's honestly not the worst thing. Regardless of what happens you will have a beautiful, healthy baby and that's the most important thing. How they get here is background noise xxx

Elf88 · 27/07/2019 18:22

@MrsDandBaby19 yes I’d had a look at that but when reading it I read it as though if you get to now with a breech too late. I will defo give it a go though it’s not going to do any harm is it !
Thank you - I agree the end result is the important thing xx
