How much should I trust a clear blue digital??

My last pregnancy I miscarried at 6 weeks. I got 6 weeks today and thought that I'd take a digital test just to see what it says. I now wish I hadn't!

The results read 2-3weeks when I concieved, which is 4-5weeks pregnant. Being 6 weeks pregnant there is now a week missing. I don't know if I'm just over thinking it or if the tests are just unreliable.

I feel like I just shouldn't have taken the test and now I'm kind of stressing myself about it. SadSad

Don’t read into it too much - the jump from 2-3 to 3+ is big (someone will post numbers at some point. I don’t know them) so I read a lot of people don’t get the 3+ at 5 weeks and go on to have healthy pregnancies xx

Darkstar4855 · 25/07/2019 09:22

They aren’t that accurate. The level of hCG can vary hugely between women at the same stage of pregnancy so they are just based on an average range. This is why the NHS doesn’t use it to date a pregnancy.

I agree with the others. With my first I didn't get 3+ weeks until I was like 7 weeks, but with this one I got 3+ when I was 5 weeks. Depends on your level of HCG. When I went to my scan a few weeks ago, they changed my due date from 17th Jan to 11th. I must have ovulated earlier than I thought, which might explain why I got the early 3+ this time. Maybe you ovulated later than you think?

Everafter1 · 25/07/2019 10:15

Mines was pretty accurate. I got 2-3 weeks, I took it 2 & a half weeks from ovulating.

Orangesandlemons82 · 25/07/2019 10:19

Im sure it varies for lots of people but this is how I realised my pregnancy wasn't progressing. I went to the Dr the next day and had HCG levels taken 48 hours apart which showed they were reducing and not doubling.
I'm sorry to have a negative story, I'm sure there are plenty of positive tales on here

catchyjem · 25/07/2019 10:33

It really isn't that accurate! I took those tests up to 8 weeks with twins... I only ever got a 2-3! Everything was fine and I wish I hadn't wasted money on the stupid tests .

ScatterBrain912 · 25/07/2019 14:44

@Orangesandlemons82 I appreciate the negative story, in some ways it helps me prepare for the worst.

It's comforting to hear so many positives that they aren't accurate. I read online that they aren't that accurate. Just wish I hadn't taken it and worried myself about it, just after my previous MC I wanted some kind of reassurance.

I have an early scan booked for next Tuesday so hopefully that will help with the worry about it all.

Thank you all for the support, I'll just try and keep my head up about it all and prepare for the worst. Sad

My first successful pregnancy I used them and was behind in weeks, had a beta blood test that day and I was actually 1,000 over the threshold it was putting me in, fell into the digi trap again with second one and my levels actually went down from showing 2-3 back to 1-2 so I thought the worst obviously after a history of misscarriage. Both pregnancies resulted in healthy sons! I hate the digis but I can't help myselfBlush

They are ok to use to find out you are pregnant (though often give false negatives in the early days and are pretty useless before your period is due) but no good to use as a monitor of how your pregnancy is progressing because, as other pp’s say, the ranges are so wide compared to ranges for hCG during early weeks so can stall in a particular range but all can carry on well; or can progress but the pregnancy can still go in to fail.

The only accurate way to get reassurance of increasing hCG is to have a series of blood levels to be monitored - however this isn’t routinely offered beyond a couple of blood tests for women undergoing fertility treatment or under the care of recurrent miscarriage clinics. Tests can cost around £40 a time and you’d need 2-3 minimum.

It’s very difficult not to keep testing or to worry about the progress of your pregnancy - I’m 30 weeks and get scanned every 2 weeks due to growth issues and I still worry before each scan that something will be wrong!!

userabcname · 25/07/2019 15:08

Another one to say they aren't accurate. I have been pregnant twice - never got more than 2-3 weeks. 2yo DS is currently rampaging around the living room and I'm 28w with my second. Good luck with the pregnancy!

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 25/07/2019 15:17

Mine has always been accurate in predicting when something wasn't right and when a pregnancy wasn't progressing (4 mc)

That being said once hcg levels get really really high it can throw the technology off that's why some 9 month pregnant women can get a BFN when they take a test

Thank you all for your replies. I feel that I should put it out of my mind for the next week until I have my early scan. But I'm preparing for the worst, just in case. However, fingers crossed that it's just an inaccurate result!

I guess we'll see when I have my scan next week, not much I can do until then so will just try not to worry.

Thank you for all of the replies!
