Gestational Diabetes or just a big baby?

SO I am 31+4 and bump/baby have measured big throughout my pregnancy (top of the percentile lines on growth charts). Growth scan today showed baby was measuring a few weeks ahead, mainly his little head and is showing at 4lbs 11oz.

Neither me or DH were surprised that we might have a big baby. I was 10lbs 4oz and he was a month early and 8lbs 6!

This morning, midwife said she was going to send me for another GD test on Thursday, and for some reason it really got to me. I know it's best for both of us if I am diagnosed, but takes away my chance of having the birth "preferences" I was after!

Anyway, just wanted to hear if anyone actually just had a big baby, without GD? Or were tested because of big baby and tests came back negative?

Thanks in advance!

I've had 3 big(ish) babies all of which measured normal during pregnancy, so had no tests. (8lb11, 8lb15 and 9lb10)

With this one because of my bmi and last baby being 9lb10 I was tested at 28wks for diabetes, this came back as normal.

Baby continued to measure 2.5wk ahead on fundal height since 28wks, this was of no concern to MW.

I then had 37wk routine growth scan and he allegedly weighs 8lb15oz already. Based on them growing 1/2 lb a week that would make him about 10.5lb at 40wks or 11.5lb at 42wks. I take these measurements with a huge pinch of salt, I was expecting him to be big anyway.

As a result of the scan I had a second fasting test which was clear again. I would definitely not have risked not doing the test.

So in answer to your question, yes I just have big babies without diabetes.

Same, DD was 10lb 4 and I was tested twice and came back negative both times.

I was also a big baby as was DH so I really think genetics has something to do with it. Sadly I didn't get the birth I wanted as the darned girl went and turned herself back to back mid labour and got stuck so we had to go for an emergency C-section anyway. My birth preferences were well out the window then.

It does not necessarily mean you won’t get your preferences but you may need to fight to for them. I was way out of normal guidelines but got most of Birth preferences due to some amazing senior midwives.

I had a very big measuring baby too but my glucose intolerance test came back negative. Take a straw with you for the test.

Big baby here (especially the head...) and my GTT came back totally clear. I'm pretty sure he gets it from his father...the thing to remember is that there always have to be some babies at the top end of normal. I had a consultant appt yesterday and he congratulated me on growing such a big baby.

Thank you all!

I realise it is not the end of the world if they come back positive/I might end up with a different birth regardless but it's just the unknown I don't like.

My own midwife has been a bit "scatty" throughout my pregnancy too, so if it does come back positive I feel like I should have been measured weeks ago when I first got sent for growth scans etc.

Between this, the heat and normal third trimester aches I'm ready to hibernate until he arrives haha!

Yes I had a big baby without GD!! Measuring big at 34 weeks, had a Astra scan that was consistent. Another scan at 38 weeks predicted a full term size of 10lb. Everytime they found out I'd passed the GTT test at 25 weeks they were surprised!! I'm overweight so saw quite a few different consultants in my time.

DS was born at 41+4, I was going to be induced tgat day, but do contractions had started the evening before. He was 10lb 11, so I reckon their prediction was spot on!

When I was born I was average, but my DH was 7lb odd, pretty normal right? Nope, his twin sister was 6lb odd too, so I blame him.
