Hi all! Hope everyone is well!

So quick question - my surgery has informed me I need to find a new practice due to no longer being in the catchment area for that surgery, even tho I changed my address in December and they've only now decided to tell me!
Anyway my question is, will I get a new midwife ? I'm part of a trial where instead of individual midwife appointments I attend in a group of women all due within 4 weeks of each other which i feel is beneficial to my situation - I'm worried I'm going to have to go through the process of meeting a new midwife going through everything again some quite traumatic experiences I have to share with them, which I don't find easy talking about!!

Are all midwives linked to a GP surgery??

I'm not sure if all of them are but this happened to me, I moved into a different area then had to change gp surgeries and my midwife did change as different teams of midwives were responsible for different areas. maybe ask at your gp if it would be possible to stay with the same midwife x

May be worth asking the GP surgery if they will make an exception for you while you are pregnant so you can stay with the same antenatal care.

Ask if you can stay on as an out of area patient, this usually just means that you don't get home visits & have to ring 111 to get a doctor to visit.

I'm having the same issue as changed my address in January and my doctor have just taken me off their patient list. I don't have to change midwife but it has caused some confusion with whether or not I'll get a health visitor before baby comes as already 26 weeks and going "gp hunting" tomorrow 😂

You should be able to stay on as ‘out of area’ patient, ask the practice manager? He/she will also know about midwifery teams and whether that would change if you can’t stay on.

I had this. We argued that it was not the time to change as I am in the middle of a high risk pregnancy.
They have agree to let me stay on until after my 6 week check after the baby is born.
Also I have since found out, they can not make you change! They can refuse home visits as you may now be to far away.
I would write to them, which is was what I did. Just explain your situation and see what happens

Thanks for your replies everyone!

I will call them again this morning I have already asked to stay on but the receptionist I got was rather blunt and rude and told me that 'there isn't enough time for patients within the catchment and they're waiting list is too long, someone else in the area can have my place' I have had a bad experience with this particular receptionist before when my daughter had measles and was told it's probably a viral rash and not to waste drs time. I demanded an appointment, I know my child and she did indeed have measles! I did make a formal complaint but never heard anything back! Hopefully il get someone else on the line this morning!

Thanks again xx

You want the practice manager. We email them and got a response back within 24 hours. Don’t take the word of the receptionist.
