How "out" can the sonographer be on a very early scan

In what way out? Do you mean your dates in terms of the estimated gestation?

codenameduchess · 22/07/2019 18:49

I had an early can and they said 'give or take 5 or 6 days'... so about a week, everything is so small it's hard to be accurate that early.
It will depend on the equipment and sonographer too though, the 'give or take' may just be so they aren't saying definite dates when there's a margin of error.

Given that they've probably done 100s/1000s scan not out by much .......but I've read you can be as much as 7 days out between what they measure and what you think your dates are and that's ok - over 7 days and unfortunately it may not be good news

LucyAcue · 22/07/2019 22:29

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted hey what do you mean by may not be good news? X

So do you think you are 5 weeks pregnant and they have dated you less?

Darkstar4855 · 22/07/2019 23:17

At five weeks they can be quite a lot out with measurements as they are measuring something only a few mm in size. This is why the NHS does not do dating scans until around 12 weeks.

Was it a transvaginal scan? These are more accurate than transabdominal scans at this stage.

Sorry @LucyAcue it's just that it's generally accepted that if your certain of your ovulation dates that measuring up to a week behind your dates is ok but more than that suggests that the pregnancy isn't progressing as it should x
