Pelvic Girdle Pain

Hi All,

I'm 22 weeks today and developed PGP a few weeks ago. I've been to see a physio about two weeks ago which did give me some immediate relief. I was also given a serola band and told to start pilates, which I start later this week. I've tried some of the exercises the physio gave me, I'm keeping my knees together getting in/out car/rolling over in bed, asking for help, sleeping with pillows, but just walking is causing me so much pain today. I've got another physio appointment tomorrow. Looking for any tips or if any of you have managed to get relief from this pain, does it go away?

I was diagnosed at 14+6 with hyperemesis and just feels like one thing after another at the moment. Trying not to cry in the office Sad. I know it'll all be worth it, I'm just feeling a little down today.

x

Ah, bless you OP. I had PGP when I was pregnant with DS last year so I feel your pain. The good news is that it does go away, not immediately but it does go once baby is out. Follow the advice your physio has given you, you can also take paracetamol. If thats not touching it, go and speak to your GP as there are stronger drugs you can take on prescription. I found water was amazing at relieving the pain so try going swimming, or signing up to an aqua natal class. Apparently osteopaths are also good for helping with the pain - have a look at the pelvic partnership website, they have a list of approved ones plus general advice. Good luck (and congratulations by the way!)

Feeling your pain. It really is horrendous and just something that isn't properly taken serious. So debilitating.

Please see the website called the pelvic partnership. They also have a group on Facebook. I joined and managed to find a manual therapist who re-aligned my pelvis a few weeks ago. I had no more clicking or pain which was a relief but still had the pubic pain (which felt like I was splitting in half) You'll never 100% get rid of the pain during pregnancy, but you can certainly get a bit of respite from it.

@FluffySavage @Hellosunshine30 thank you both, I've been making good use of the Pelvic Partnership and both physio's were listed. I didn't know about the facebook page so will join. I've been considering an aquanatal class so will definitely get that booked too.

Will start taking paracetomol regularly too, I had to come off some strong meds before getting pregnant so been trying to just 'get on with it', but there's certainly no medals for this...

If you go swimming don't do breast stroke though! Everything I read said swimming was great exercise in pregnancy so I went in the pool and did a leisurely beast stroke for about half an hour...totally killed my hips!

Hi OP.

Sorry to hear you're having a rotten time.

I am 16 weeks today and woke up this morning with an aching pain in my hips/bottom of my back. Not crossed the line into "pain" as such, but it is like a dull ache that just won't go away and I have a desk job so sitting at my desk for periods of time is making me feel even more achy lol.

My bump is also quite big (apparently), and people can't believe I'm only 16 weeks. I can feel myself already walking differently to accommodate. I'm worried I'm going to start getting PGP later in pregnancy, not looking forward to it. I have phoned the physio today at my local hospital and referred myself for some pregnancy physio in anticipation of PGP so we'll see what happens.

My mum said that when she was pregnant with me she had PGP as I was a big baby... eek.

I hope you manage to find some relief. Have you tried pregnancy yoga/aqua classes for pregnant ladies? a pregnancy massage might be worth looking into... but I'm sorry I have no help or advice :( x

MrsA89 · 22/07/2019 13:31

@kinsters, will definitely avoid breast stroke, thanks!

@Marty93 bless you, I hope you manage to get ahead of it. I'm finding myself aching at my desk too, if I sit for about 20/30mins my bum goes numb now too. I've not tried yoga or aqua yet, I start pregnancy pilates on Thursday, and will probably sign up to aqua too. x
