Is a growth scan at 36 weeks routine?

I had a midwife appointment and had my bump measured and it seems to have come away from the growth line I was following. She didn’t seem concerned and did say I was measuring nice and then went on to say about booking a growth scan at 36 weeks. I’ve been on the nhs website and this doesn’t seem to be standard. This is my first pregnancy.

At a midwife appointment with dc1 (I can't remember what week) she said my measurements were off and sent me for growth scan. Baby measured bang on. Don't stress yourself it's just routine and means you get to see baby again!

It depends on your area. In some a growth scan at 34-36 weeks is standard in others it only occurs if there’s a problem.

I think this is a new thing that's being brought in to check the baby before delivery so it'll be routine

No it’s not routine. But it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong either Smile Did the midwife say anything about baby’s position? Position of your baby can affect the fundal height measurement.
Fundal height measurements are really just an estimate though - they aren’t an accurate indication of the size of your baby.
I had a growth scan with DC2 as my bump was measuring consistently small. The growth scan did give an estimated weight that would have meant he was very small for dates, but out he popped 4 weeks early weighing a perfectly healthy 6lbs 9oz Smile

In my area (East london) it is now routine to have a growth scan at 36 weeks. I had mine two weeks ago, it was very useful and really nice to see baby again. The 20week scan feels like a lifetime ago.

No it's not standard and a first growth scan at that late stage is unlikely to be accurate. Accept it but do research if they recommend any intervention.

It's not routine everywhere but it's not a problem either. I had growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks because my BMI was too high for fundal height to be reliable. Blush

As it happens, we did find out that the sexing done at 20 weeks was wrong, at the 36 week scan. So gave me some time to get my head around that. Obviously not the worst news in the world, just a surprise!

I had one but I had a small first baby. I don’t think it’s routine.

It was at the hospital I had my eldest (Kings College). Everyone got one, it is a research hospital so think that’s why. Had one for my second too (different hospital) because I was having a c section and that was standard.

Baby was laying with his head down, back on my left side and legs across my ribs so not sure if he was pushing up on one side making me a bit bigger than before as he was transverse I believe at the last appointments. I have another scan before then to check for low lying placenta so hopefully both will come back fine. Just didn’t expect a spike in my growth all of a sudden. I will 100% do my research for interventions provided my placenta scan comes back ok.

I hope the have got his sex right @HoneysuckIejasmine as we have struggled enough with names and couldn’t agree on a girls name so don’t fancy opening that conversation up again!
