I'm 36 weeks An 1 CM dilated! I know one cm is nothing but its a start an dr said it can for from one to five in days or weeks or I can be stuck between one an three for weeks or just all depends on my body An when baby is ready , I am so anxious I'm in the beginning process!

36 weeks here also! Is it your first? How come you have been examined if you dont mind me asking x

Shahlalala · 17/07/2019 12:16

36 here too, seeing the midwife this afternoon.
Why did they check? I don’t recall being checked until I was in labour.

sav93 · 23/07/2019 18:40

They check you weekly once ur 35 weeks and beyond? There supposed to to see if ur dilating , effacing, baby head down , measuring ur belly , and baby's heart beat ... I don't have a midwife I have just my regular in dr who I see every week since 35 weeks , I'm now 37 weeks 2 Cm dilated 50% effaced and my mucus plug is coming out already my next apt is literally in 6 days from now cause I go weekly

Yes it's my first baby and they're supposed to check you weekly if you have a regular OB I didn't get a midwife because I just rather have my own doctor?

My midwife hasn’t checked, they never did with my first either until I was in labour.
They check bump, position etc but never internal examinations. First I had was a sweep at 40 weeks.

Are you in the Uk op? Europe do it a lot differently too us!

Mammalian · 23/07/2019 19:14

Wow i got to 42 weeks and was literally never checked, ever, until the day i was brought in to be induced!

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/07/2019 19:16

Im guessing op is not in the uk

I have had four babies and not been checked unless in labour / there were concerns

NeverHadANickname · 23/07/2019 19:22

I am in the US and I think regular internals are standard here at some point and I always see an obstetrician, only seen midwife once (I'm 30 weeks). This isn't the point of the thread but I'm glad to hear internals aren't normal in the UK because I was hoping to decline them as unnecessary when I get to that stage. I'm not against them but feel the less fiddling with the cervix the better.

sav93 · 24/07/2019 01:28

I'm not in the uk? Ob is a vagina dr , I live in the us and I get checked every week by my dr to check my progress to see if I've dilated effaced etc and to check my protein levels in my pee , check my blood pressure and weight ... it supposed to go once a week to check all those things and u only get a sweep if u pass ur due date , I haven't passed my due date so I don't have to do a sweep unless I pass my due date and no my pregnancy isn't high risk or anything that's just how they do it ? And it's the most common I feel and everyone I know has had the same experience I've had ? Getting checked weekly when ur due date is near and they check u cause some women can be in labor and not know it hence why u get checked , women can be dilated to 7 and not know it An once ur that far u should be at the hospital..... and messing with the cervix doesn't start labor either the sweep can push labor though

OP your experience sounds normal for the US (and will be what I get) but it is all different from the UK. I will be turning down some of the things offered to be more in line with the UK way of doing things.

dreaming174 · 24/07/2019 07:01

Hi, I'm not in the UK either. Not US, but follow similar processes. I'm due my first internal exam next week (37 weeks) to check dilation etc, but it's the only one I'll be having as I'll be refusing any others until I'm in labour as I don't think they're necessary.

Shahlalala · 24/07/2019 07:49

Not disputing it OP! Just different from what they do here. Smile
