Hi all - what can I use to treat thrush from over the counter? I'm 37+2.

Thanks

canestan. Get the dr to prescribe it though, much cheaper.

Thanks. Is the cream or tablet the best?

I think the dr prescribed me a pessary and some cream. I also use some of this to keep things at bay good luck

I'm 28 weeks now and have been besieged by thrush nearly since conception. It's a real pain. I think the key thing is not to take anything (like diflucan) orally. Went to doc's and he said Canesten pessary and cream is fine (cream won't work on its own) - but he advised me not to put pessary very far up vagina. I didn't use the applicator, just my finger. Worked for a couple of weeks then it came back. Tried Canesten combo again, and same happened. Three weeks ago, I went back to doc's and he prescribed a vaginal cream, which comes with an applicator for squirting up you - that was a seven-night treatment, but I'm pretty sure the thrush is coming back! It's itchy down there although no discharge so far. How lovely.
Only comfort is that all the books say thrush is very common in pregnancy...and it's the only problem I'm having so far, so it's not so bad. All the over the counter treatment give cautions on their instructions about thrush - so best to see your GP for direct advice. Good luck.

Go to doc and get the mega-strength pessaries (agree don't use applicator) - will be free on prescription and they're pricey over the counter.
I needed two courses but it seems to have gone [finegrs crossed]

i used Canestan pessary, plus cream. def get a prescription- costs a fortune otherwise.

If it doesn't clear up get checked out though- they like to rule out other things with a swab if it won't go.

I used the pessary and it really helped, although you may find they will not sell it to you without a prescription from the doc!

I'm seeing doctor at 12:25. Don't want to ignore it or just go to counter now as birth is coming up and don't want it to affect baby. Thanks anyway for your advice.
