First midwife appointment too early?

Hi all, first time posting on mumsnet! Got my BFP yesterday, called GP today and they've booked me in to see the midwife on Friday. I'm a little confused as I thought the first midwife appointment was done nearer 8 weeks? Have been TTC past 3 months so I know it's very early especially when AF isn't due until Wednesday. I've done 6 tests all different brands and all positive so I'm definitely pregnant. Just wondering why they've booked me so quickly?

Sorry if this is a pointless post, just wasn't what I expected!

I'd reckon so?

Did they ask you how many weeks you were? The same thing happened to me. I found out I was pregnant on the Wednesday and I was offered a midwife appointment the following week.
The midwife said that the receptionist should have asked me how many weeks I was as they don't normally book midwife apt's in so early. I was in and out in 5 mins as there wasn't anything they could do or say at this stage other than rebook me another apt! I now have my first "proper" midwife apt on Thursday this week where I'll be 9 weeks + 6 days. Hope this helps and congratulations!

It's earlier than normal, but probably just a case of their availability. I've had the same midwife for both my pregnancies - my booking in appointment was at 6 weeks the first time around and not til 10 weeks this time. It shouldn't be a problem.

I don’t think it makes a huge amount of difference to be honest, apart from bloods it’s a question and answer appointment, your history, partners history, family history.

You will then get a scan apt through when your around 12 weeks.

I’d go for it... at least you aren’t waiting weeks and weeks like some!

Thanks girls! I don't remember the receptionist asking how far along I am but she did say it would typically be an hour long appointment which I thought was a bit weird. I might give them another call just to be sure and if they still want to see me then fair enough!

I've been told my booking in appointment will be an hour too, but they asked me re dates and I have it booked for 8+0.
