Should I tell my GP?

Hi all, advice please!

My fiancee and I are moving to the channel Islands on 12th August (I will be 7 weeks pregnant) which of course, means changing GP and no NHS. I am planning on having an early scan at around 6 weeks 5 days before we leave.

My question is, should I bother telling my current UK GP/Midwife if I won't even be continuing my pregnancy with the NHS? The early scan place says that they pass on the ultrasound to my GP, would it look strange that I haven't even informed them of my pregnancy yet they will receive an ultrasound?

Not sure what to do, don't want to waste anyone's time!

If you are paying for the early scan it's up to you what happens to the result. I don't remember mine going to anyone other than me. Just wait until you move and register with a new doctor. (In the UK they wouldn't do anything until approx 9/10 week booking in appointment with M/W). If you are high risk for any other reason then ignore this and talk to your surgery for advice.

I wouldn't bother with your GP - there's nothing they will do that early, and many people won't even know they're pregnant at that stage!

I don't think they'll worry that they've had a private scan without being told - I suspect it will just get filed away.

Don't bother telling them. I told mine only once I moved as otherwise you might get lost in the system... new gp can take a while

Thank you so much for your advice ladies. I have had a previous miscarriage and I have a high BMI so I'm not sure if that changes things. I was thinking it wouldn't be worth telling them too.

They will only get in touch with your GP/midwife if there are issues that need investigating - such as pregnancy of unknown location or dates being wildly out compared to your expected dates - the private clinic can’t refer you to EPU so your GP/midwife would need access to the scan report so they can refer you appropriately.
