Exercise in first trimester

Hi everybody

I’m just seven weeks pregnant with my second baby and today is the first time I have felt well enough to do any exercise ... but after just 20 minutes I feel awful again. I am used to going to the gym most days so the lack of exercise is getting me down and I feel like it’s further depleting my energy levels!! Has anyone else found that exercise at this stage just brings on nausea?? Thank you!!

First trimester is tough. I regularly worked out with my personal trainer, but had to stop. I ended up feeling very light headed and short of breath, although I've been aneamic the whole pregnancy so that plays a factor

Just take it easy, and listen to your body. One day at a time

You just do what you can. Lower intensity might help.

I was used to high intensity runs and bikes everyday but had to go with gentle static biking in front of the telly in my first tri.
2nd and til mid 3rd tri I could go back to running almost normally, then very late on back to gentle static bike.

Theres a good work vid on youtube called '20 min first trimester prenatal cardio' its by bodyfit by Amy.
I really like it as 25 min non stop moving (with warm up/ cool down) and varied.
I'm on her third trimester video now! I try to do it twice a week, and swim twice a week and that enough for me

I'm in the same boat. 11 weeks now, haven't been able to exercise for the last 5. I feel like a different person, and not in a good way Sad

Yes I found the same. I was starting to get quite fit before pregnancy, but the first trimester I was so exhausted and like you, I would start feeling sick after about 20 minutes. All I can say is keep up with what you can, and see if you can get back into it once the sickness eases off. With nausea, exhaustion, anaemia and pgp I've found it difficult to exercise more than 1 or 2 times a month, although my job is physical enough that I've not become completely unfit! But I would have loved to keep lifting weights and keeping up with my cardio throughout, bet I'd have an easier labour and maybe I wouldn't have gained 4 stone!

Thank you all so much for your responses, such helpful advice and just great to know there are others in the same boat. Sianyb83, I’ll check out the video on YouTube. Thank you!! Flowers

I had a similar problem, more because my boobs were too sore to run which was usually my exercise of choice.

Maybe try switching to something less intense to see if that helps? Swimming is my new go-to Smile

I found the first trimester tough. I just couldn't give 100% as I felt tired and nauseous. Got a lot better from around 15 weeks. Now 34 and although I dropped most impact at 20 weeks due to the feeling of pressure, I am still working out. Weights, circuits, body pump, stairmaster and spin just with modifications as necessary!

I totally stopped exercising from about 8 weeks to about 12 weeks because I had bleeding and my Dr advised me to rest.

I'm back into it now and was quite pleased at how normal I feel, I don't feel like I've lost much fitness at all and I can still do as much as I did prior to pregnancy (have to be careful of my hips but that's it).

Good to know I can hopefully pick it back up in the second trimester. Will give swimming a try. Thanks girls!! Xx
