Raw chicken? Help!

14 weeks pregnant. Just been out to lunch and ordered boneless Maryland chicken in a gravy. It had pink and purple areas through it that really stood out, as well as white. Dh was convinced it was cooked, but he eats anything. Now I'm really worried and wish I had questioned it further.

Anyone eaten undercooked chicken in pregnancy? Kind of freaked out. I don't care if I get sick but I'm worried for the baby. I've had miscarriages in the past and tried for a long time for this baby.

Hi the pink & purple bits could just have been a vain, even when cooked that bits just stay that colour, my husband is a chef x

I'm sure it was cooked & that's just part of the chicken. Raw chicken a lot more obvious. I think you'll be fine.

Sorry - wishing all the best with your pregnancy. I'm sure all will be well 💐

Raw chicken is jelly-like and almost clear.

The pink/purple bits would have been a vein and leaked blood staining the muscle. I wouldn’t worry.

You’d have known if it was raw or undercooked with the texture. It’s a really weird sensation when you bite into it, really jellylike! As pp have said, purple and pink can be veins. Was it a piece that was originally close to a bone eg thigh? The closer you get to a bone the more veins there are.

I've started vomiting badly tonight. I don't usually vomit in the evenings, feeling quite concerned.

Ring your midwife up!

I'll have to wait until the morning unicorn. I'm in Australia and it's late here.

I really wouldn't worry. The guideline is due to increased risk to you from a weakened immune system necessary to sustain pregnancy.

If it was raw chicken, vomiting thus quickly afterwards is a good sign- it's your body getting rid rather than anything really nasty, like salmonella which takes 3-7 days to multiply.
