No longer hearing hb on laying on my back

I can now only hear it if I lay on my left side and hear the heart beat on the doppler on my right side? I've never had a doppler before but after losing three pregnancies I wanted the reassurance of hearing baby. Should I be worried about not finding it when laying down its been about three days now up till that point I found it really easily? Any advice please

Could it be my heart beat Does your own heart rate increase laying on your left? I'm really anxious after everything we have been through this pregnancy I forgot to add I'm 18 weeks and 6 days

I think home use Doppler is notoriously unreliable which is why they’re discouraged-they case panic. I can understand why you got one but I’d try to stop using it and see your MW for reassurance.

Please don’t use a Doppler! They cause so much anxiety if you can’t find a heartbeat and there have been cases of parents thinking there was a heartbeat when baby actually had passed. If you’re concerned- call your maternity triage and they may get you to come in

In the nicest way possible, this is why home dopplers are not recommended. They cause more angst than anything! I'm 33 weeks and babies hb has been found in a different place every time I've had a MW look for it.

If baby has moved, which is very likely at 18 weeks it could be anywhere! Even my MW was reluctant to look before I was 24 weeks (policy where I live). She did try at my 20 week appointment, for 40 minutes and couldn't find it. Which caused so much worry! All was fine but I'd really try not to worry!

I have a heartbeat Doppler and struggle to find my baby’s heartbeat and I’m nearly 24 weeks.
I know in the earlier stages when I listened I heard my own heartbeat near the sides but it’s so difficult to find the baby’s.

Put the doppler somewhere far away that you can't reach it, and call midwife if you have any genuine concerns about baby

Get rid of the Doppler. It can provide reassurance when something is wrong meaning you can put your baby at risk, they should only be used by trained professionals. If in doubt about movements or health contact your midwife or hospital. You may think your hearing a heartbeat when your not or you may struggle to pick it up when things are fine.

It's not recommended to use a home Doppler. Midwife's have years of experience to tell the difference between the baby and the placenta. I've had a trainee midwife following me throughout my pregnancy and a few times her trainer has had to correct her as she's been listening to the placenta instead of baby's HR.

If you think something is wrong call your midwife. If you're using the Doppler wrong, you might be falsely reassured
