26 week check measuring big

Had my 26 week check today, I’m actually only 25+5.
Midwife decided to measure as my bump looks very big.
It is 34cm, which would make me more like 31 plus weeks.
No sugar showing on urine.
I have my gtt test on the 23rd and we are away next week, and they can’t fit one in before that date even if I was here.
My mum was very big when pregnant too, didn’t have GTT just a lot of water.
Hoping one of you may be able to help, if you have had the same situation.

How did the MW respond to your measurements? Are they concerned? Was another GTT recommended for example.

I think genetics really do come into play here, and if you feel well and comfortable, don’t worry unnecessarily. I’d focus on the fact that your mum carried a lot of fluid in her pregnancy and follow that as a prototype for your future (I hope it wasn’t awful!!)

It’s extremely unusual for a symphisis-fundal measurement to not correlate with your weekly measurement when you’re lying down (one of those weird science things!) but measurements can be inaccurate and won’t necessarily mean you will have a giant baby!! Try not to panic.

Also, we change shape dramatically over the second-to-third trimester, and things can even out a little, so that you fall back into the growth chart a bit more closely.

They have moved my growth scan to a week earlier.
I told her all about mum and my nan was also the same.
They told me at my 20 week scan that she is really long, which I’m not surprised about because I’m 5:7 and DH is 6 foot.
I also have very long legs.
I’m not overly concerned, but I get they want check everything.
They reckon family isn’t that important.

Sorry, should say family history

I was just talking to My best friend, she had her son about 3w ago. All the way through her pregnancy, she was told that she was MASSIVE. She had 3 GTT and her antenatal team couldn’t fathom her enormity (she measured 36 at an appt about 30w, that’s the only time she told me exact measurements)

She had a sweep booked at due date if she didn’t go in to labour before, which was making her anxious, and which she was ready to fight against.

She is 5’7” and her DH is 6’3”.

Their baby boy was 7lb12oz....completely average. He’s quite tall/long, but absolutely unremarkable apart from gorgeous, and I do wonder what the medics get from making such a fuss.

Admittedly, my friend has no family history of giant bumps, apart from her sister, who DID have quite large girls at 10lb5oz and 10lb9oz!!!

I'm measuring big and growing faster than the curve so have had a growth scan. Baby is totally average but it's mainly fluid and I've been diagnosed with Polyhydramnios - exactly the same thing happened to my mum. GTT was totally clear and they can't see any other reason so likely just one of those things. I have another scan on Monday but I don't expect anything much to have changed - I'm having a c section at 39 weeks anyway.

Take it with a pinch of salt. I was told with dd1 that she was measuring really big and had multiple growth scans.
She was born naturally at 39 weeks at 7lbs and was so small that we had to put her in tiny baby clothes.

This is what I think. My mum is just 5 foot and myself and my brother were 8.7 and 8.8, boy had the little extra bit😂
So there is a history of big babies.
At my12 weeks scan, the antenatal team came to check it was my 12, not my 20 week scan. I’ve been big since 8 weeks. I also have HG, so have actually lost weight.
I’m glad they are top of these thing, but sometimes feels a bit much.

I measured big at my 28 week appointment - on the scan the baby was on the larger side but not too big (70th centile). However, I had more fluid than average - very close to the threshold for polyhydramnios.

I've got another scan tomorrow at 36 weeks to see whether the fluid has gone down or not - given I'm measuring bigger than I was I'm not optimistic. .... I'm worried but at the same time glad they are on top of it - there are risks to having polyhydramnios and at least if they know they can manage it correctly.

The worst thing about being big is all the comments you get - since I've been 6 months everyone has been asking when I'm due assuming it's very soon. When I say August I get unhelpful comments like 'I can't imagine being that big with 3 months left to go'!!!!
