What to expect at 20 week scan

I have my 20 week scan next Wednesday. I'm feeling increasingly nervous about it (have counted down the weeks and now the days!)

Please can someone explain to me what happens? Do they scan the baby for a length of time and then give the all clear; or if they find something do they carry on the scan and then tell you?

I'm concerned how long it is going to take before the sonographor tells me whether there are issues or not. Perhaps when I'm there it will all go so quickly anyway but I think it may be helpful to know.

Tia

@1990carey it definitely is! A low level of worry minimum from now on. I'm still undecided. My partner doesn't want to know but I do as I'm a planner so I would like to get it straight in my head prior to birth. I'm good at secrets though so I might just get the sonographor to write it down for me to open when I'm alone. What about you? X

@AndBeholdAWhiteHorse they scan your baby's body brain and organs in detail, taking pictures and measurements. They do go quiet because they are concentrating not to miss anything import so better not to ask questions till the end, if you do/ don't want to know the gender make sure you state that at the beginning

I had to go back as DS wouldn't move to measure his spine x

Yah were defo finding out the gender! Like you I'm a planner, and my partners happy either way so will be finding out!
