I’m a stm 40+2 today and I’m booked in for a sweep tomorrow.

I’ve been having loads of pre-labour signs for a couple of weeks now. Baby’s head is 2/5ths engaged, low back pain, period type cramps, lots of uncomfortable Braxton Hicks and (TMI) a lot of clearing out!!

I’m just really nervous that it’s not going to work as it baby is measuring in the 80th percentile so he’s going to be a big boy 😳 lol

TIA

I had a successful sweep with my first, but my waters had already ruptured so I was leaking fluid. So labour may have already been on the way. But the sweep definitely got things going for me.

My daughter was 75th percentile for weight and height, but she wasn’t big! Only 7lb 2oz, so he may not be as huge as they say. It’s not that accurate, they can’t tell until he is born.

I’m sure it will be fine! Good luck :)

I’m 38+ 5 with my second and similar to you have had period type cramps off and on. Not really had back ache, but I don’t think I did with my first. In fact with my daughter I had no signs at all until my waters broke in the morning of 39+5. Then I had her at 39+6.

Hope it goes well for you :) x

Babies come when they come, I'm afraid to say. Either the sweep will work because you were about to give birth anyway or it won't because the baby is expecting to stay put for another week or more. Full term is 37 to 42 weeks so at 40+2 you are only in the middle of that band, not the end.

In France, they estimate due dates at 41 weeks so it seems early for a sweep to me. Was it recommended by your midwife?

Obviously totally up to you but I refused even booking a sweep in until I was over 41 weeks (had it booked for 41+5) and went in to labour at 41+3 as clearly that's when my baby was ready.

I don't mean to sound judgemental in any way. I know it's a stressful time. Do what's right for you. For me, having unsuccessful sweeps was going to stress me out which meant it was even less likely I'd go into labour. Your body needs happy hormones to start, as stress sends signals to your body to say to the babe 'it's scary out here, stay put little one!'

Cuppa12345 I’ve been suffering with hyperemesis since 6 weeks, BP is borderline high and my platelets are low but not low enough to have an induction.

I know it all depends if the baby is ready but I’m just hoping this just gives him a little push to get things going.

Blondiejay24 that’s reassuring but my first was 8lb 14 😳 not expecting a small one after that haha 😂

What I mean is... They can't really be pushed. They are either ready, in which case the sweep doesn't work, it just happens at the same time as the baby was going to be born without it, or they aren't and you're dissapointed and stressed and probably further away from being born.

Hope it all works out for you!

I would say go for the sweep. At worst, you’ll get information about what’s going on down there. At best, a baby in your arms in 48 hrs. I had my second baby yesterday (41+3) after 3 good sweeps (and one failed) but it was useful to see how things were changing on each occasion, and while not pleasant they were certainly bearable and the last one likely did tip me over the edge into labour as there was barely anything holding him in by this point!! Good luck OP
