Plenty of pillows at night between knees and under bump, basically make a nest. Also you can get a bump support and another that goes around you hips. Keeping mobile although painful really helped me. Ask for a list of gentle leg/hip exercises. Had it with all my pregnancies but luckily never got so bad I needed crutches. X

Pillow between the knees.

Spin on your bum to get in and out of the car, rather than splaying your legs.

Ow ow ow.

Shazafied · 09/07/2019 21:49

Pillow between the legs, resting as much as possible helped me , paracetamol - Codeine If it’s really bad, support belts are a waste of time IME

cloudyinjune · 09/07/2019 22:01

Silk or satin bedsheets or PJs
I kid you not. They help so much to turn and move around in bed, I didn't believe my physio until I bought them

cloudyinjune · 09/07/2019 22:01

And plastic bag to sit in car and spin easily

Also... don’t walk unless you have to. If you can get a cleaner. Order all your groceries online (hoovering and pushing trollies are both bad for it.

physicskate · 09/07/2019 22:27

Pelvic partnership website has lots of tips too. You have my sympathies...

Prettylittlebumblebee · 09/07/2019 23:02

Yep. Suffered from 20 weeks and it has been absolutely horrendous to the point I've had to use a wheelchair. Best advice I can give you is similar to above

Buy a pregnancy pillow
Satin pj's or buy a slide sheet for turning in bed
Dont hoover or do any movements that involve twisting. Especially hoovering.
Take nice hot baths, paracetamol and have a hot water bottle when in pain
NHS will give you a pregnancy belt

The most important info I can pass onto you is go onto the website called the pelvic partnership. They are also on Instagram and a group on Facebook. On the website they have a section where you can find a physio in your area who does manual therapy. I cannot stress enough how much this helps. NHS were honestly useless and if you join the group you will see that. Manual therapy is fantastic. I wish I knew about it earlier on as i ended up going off work early etc.
. Take it easy x

MrsBertBibby · 09/07/2019 23:23

I'd forgotten the plastic bag trick!

Mrsmummy90 · 09/07/2019 23:34

Lots of pillows for between legs and under bump and get referred to physio. The waiting list here is 24 weeks so unfortunately I had to go private.

EgremontRusset · 09/07/2019 23:40

Physio. Private if that’s an option, to avoid waiting list.

Saladinthesun · 10/07/2019 01:00

All of the above advice and also what seems to be helping me-
Pelvic floor exercises (kegels)
Pelvic tilt exercises (happy cat/angry cat)
Butt clenches (30 second x 10 couple times a day)
Drawing belly button to spine and holding for 30 seconds x 10
I had to stop my regular workouts and long walks because of SPD, had the pain at front middle of pelvis and then it also started at joint where spine and pelvis meet on right side, doing those little exercises has really helped. Not got rid completely but at least I can walk around without saying ‘ouch’ every step!

Thank you everyone I'm in so much pain it's horrible I'm waiting on physio to start I just don't see how I'm going to get though another 20 weeks how did you all cope x

Autumnalfeels · 10/07/2019 18:23

It's not easy, but the most important thing is don't put too much pressure on yourself. I was in denial about what I could and couldn't do and ended up in so much pain because I just couldn't not hoover etc. Listen to your body.

100% go see a manual therapist though and join Facebook group x

kkl1 · 10/07/2019 21:49

How far in pregnancy did u all go was it full term

physicskate · 10/07/2019 22:18

I first had trouble turning in bed at 11 weeks. Group physio at 24 weeks. Individual physio 28 weeks, when I was given crutches and told to use them. All. The. Time.

Couldn't work by 30 weeks. Housebound by 33 weeks. Baby arrived safely at 40+5. Had an epidural after 3 days of labour. Was not able to be mobile during labour, which obviously wasn't helpful.

But I did manage to walk out of hospital the day after delivery without crutches!! Despite forceps, episiotomy and many stitches!!

I do still get the odd twinge at 4 months pp. It can be a bit painful if I walk more than half an hour... I'm slowly trying to increase my fitness levels again.,.

Autumnalfeels · 10/07/2019 23:10

I'm still pregnant with 3 weeks to go, but I've done so much reading up on pgp/spd and it gets me so angry that it's isn't acknowledged properly. 1 in 5 women suffer with it and it is treatable. That's why I went private because the NHS did nothing for me and basically told me nothing they can do, here's crutches and a belt. I took the belt but left the crutches and saw someone private. Its the fact you can actually have issues after birth. Some women have went years with issues, it's scary and needs to be properly campaigned!!!!! (can you tell I get angry about it lol)
I'm hoping for a water birth and minimal pain relief and hopefully I don't go over x

kkl1 · 11/07/2019 15:02

I just really am not coping and I'm so early still just don't no how I'm going to cope for another 20 weeks Confused

physicskate · 11/07/2019 15:22

One day at a time.

I promise it gets easier (even if the spd gets worse) the closer you get to the end (says the woman who was housebound by spd)...

soloula · 11/07/2019 15:59

I had spd with both my two. With DD1 it flared up a few weeks before my due date so too late to do anything. With DD2 I was 20 weeks and it was excruciating. I pushed for a physio referral which was great as she showed me the best way to move to minimise the pain and some helpful exercises so try access something like that if you can.

In the end, DD2 moved about 4 weeks later and my spd eased. It wasnt gone but wasno where near as bad as before. She must have been lying on a nerve or something. So dont assume that's you for the duration as it might not be, just concentrate on trying to alleviate your symptoms as much as you can just now, taking any help that's offered.
