Hi guys,

I'm 27+1 with my first baby, he's been sooo active since about 22 weeks, no particular pattern but when I lie down he starts to give it loads kicking so much. I usually feel 20+ kicks an hour.

Since yesterday I haven't felt so many, he is still moving but I've felt about 20 kicks all day - which is less than what he's Been doing for the past 5 weeks.

Idk if it would matter but I've been quite constipated the past few days, if they makes a difference, as in maybe I'm too full and can't feel him as much?

I don't want to go the hospital if they'll just tell me it's constipation and send me home, I know he is moving it's just not as much and I'm not sure if I'm over reacting?

I've had a fizzy drink and plan on having an ice cream hopefully that'll get him moving

Come on! The amount of information out there on movements and you come on to MN to ask?? Movement shave changed - either frequency or pattern - you call your midwife. How can you even be querying this.

TheBubGrower · 09/07/2019 18:14

Previous poster is being incredibly rude and unkind, but yes you should talk to your midwife / local maternity unit about this. They say not to wait but to check this out straight away. You won't be wasting their time and they would much rather make sure all is well x

HDready · 09/07/2019 18:15

On the basis of what you have described, it is not normal for you so please get this checked out.

Purplepjs · 09/07/2019 18:20

Go get checked. They will be only too happy to monitor you...it’s what they’re there for. Take a book and a snack and go check everything is fine.

I would definitely go and get it checked out. Hospitals would rather you did that than left it. I find after going the toilet after being constipated my baby moves a lot more afterwards but I don’t think that in itself would be a reason not to feel as much before hand if you get me. They won’t think you’re overreacting! hope all goes well!

@mustdrivesoon is an idiot. Do not listen to them.

I always found babies movements difficult to understand because there wasn't ever really any pattern. If I were you, I would give triage a wee call and they can advise. I'm sure all will be OK, but it'll l give you peace of mind.

melissa1215 · 09/07/2019 18:32

Thank you everyone! I'll go get checked out, best to be safe than sorry I guess.

@mustdrivesoon having never been in this situation before and being an incredibly anxious ftm, why not come on here and ask MN? I have no pregnant friends or relatives to ask and I actually have left 5 missed calls with midwives as my midwife has retired and I haven't been allocated a new one.

I hope if you ever need to post on here you don't get replies like the one you posted.

I am 27+3, yesterday I noticed exactly the same thing, called my maternity assessment unit who advised to come in straight away. Reduced movement is an instant referral to the assessment unit. Hooked up to machines for a few hours whilst they monitored the little on. Dont take any chanced when it comes to reduced movement. Hope all is well

EAIOU · 09/07/2019 18:48

Go get seen for reassurance mamma! Its likely he's just having a lazy day or now he knows to wait quietly and the icecream will come. He probably has it all sussed out already 😂😂😂

Greenmarmalade · 09/07/2019 18:52

Always go in for monitoring if the movement changes/reduces. Expect a long wait so bring drinks, food and a book!

Insist on being seen and monitored. It's worth it.

MissB83 · 09/07/2019 19:06

I went in three times for reduced movements, the first being at 25 weeks. You will be able to go on the CTG monitor at 27 weeks so please go and get checked out, you mustn't take any chances.

Bambamber · 09/07/2019 20:16

Are you trying to call the community midwives or the local maternity ward at the hospital? As especially at this time of day it will be a lot easier to get hold of the hospital to arrange to be seen. Good luck

HJWT · 09/07/2019 20:19

Just ring your hospital maternity ward x
