Reduced fetal movement - 37+6 - scan okay

I am 37 + 6 weeks and baby has always been very very active. Friday I had hardly any movements. Saturday went to hospital, was strapped up and they said fine (baby moved loads when strapped up) but then hardly anything again after. The next day was the same so went back Sunday night. Was kept in overnight and monitored. They were happy and also with the scan.

Dr then said we will induce at 39 weeks bc of the RFM. Consultant changed it to 40 weeks.

I have come home and I’m still not feeling anywhere near what is the norm. They said in this case I need to go back in and back and back.

I don't feel I can go back in every day for the next two weeks. I can't sleep and am very stressed. They said baby is fine atm
but to go in any time there is reduced movement - well there is reduced movement all of the time?!

Please go back every time. Ds2 was delivered at 37 plus 4 due to reduced movements and ongoing bleeding. He wasn’t breathing properly and was rushed straight to scbu. The doctors never found out the cause but something was definitely not right.

Baby has actually moved twice more today so I don't think I will go up at 4pm as planned. Will see into the evening. I have also gone very tired and thirsty which I think happens when she moves loads.

@HJWT yes I would prefer not to as I am going on a very nice midwife led unit but if induced then it will be labour ward and probably longer and more painful. However, dr and consultant said they won't wait over 40wks anyway, in which case I will be induced in 3 weeks anyway.

So I went in again today with further RFM and a consultant saw me. She said they don't like to bring my induction date from 40 weeks to 39 weeks bc it can be a more difficult labour. I wasn't quite sure why she was saying this bc I hadn't asked nor mentioned anything about bringing to forward. But she then said we will do a sweep on Monday (11 days before 40weeks/induction date). I’m so confused. I didn't ask bc I was confused and on my own and I always just nod.

Sweep is less of an intervention than induction so fairly standard to try sweeps prior to induction.

georgialondon · 10/07/2019 21:45

My local hospital would have induced by now. If you present twice with reduced movements post 37 weeks they induce you,

HJWT · 14/07/2019 13:01

@Mrbumpoid how are you & baby doing? they do a sweep to check your cervix if its favourable they might bring induction forward x

@HJWT not much change altho I've had a tight stomach for hours now (must be BH). Yesterday I had shooting pains in my lower back but only for a couple of hours. Baby was very very active Friday and then normal Saturday and not much movement today. Altho I'm suddenly feeling like she is very low down (and with the hiccups) Still plan for sweep tomorrow first thing.

I haven't read the whole thread but please please go in every time. Mine sounded just like yours baby went from very active to hardly moving scans were all fine. Baby would move occasionally but I had to really focus on feeling the movements and it wasn't much. Eventually I was induced early at 37 weeks plus 2 days due to the reduced movements but my sons heartbeat dropped during labour. They got it back up quickly and him out very quickly after that but he ended up in nicu. The cord was round his neck, he had some breathing issues, he had a pneumothorax and needed a blood transfusion all within his first couple of days and he had a low birth weight of only 5lbs.. Consultant showed us how his skin was baggy which apparently showed he had been using up his fat stores to keep going.. Dopplers and everything on scans had seemed fine. He spent a week in nicu and is now perfectly well and healthy at 16 months old. He's caught up on his weight and is doing really well. To look at him now you wouldn't believe the beginning he had but honestly if I was in the same position again I would have been at the hospital more than I was as I felt bad going back in for reduced movements when the monitors all said he was fine.

Keep going back and if you have a feeling that things are not right, then ask for them to write that you are concerned in your notes.
Best wishes and I hope your baby arrives soon.

Keep going in OP! Every time movements are reduced please go back in. I was induced at 39 weeks due to RFM. I went in time after time and was told all was fine. Turns out I had an umbilical cord knot which may or may not have been causing reduced movement but thankfully all was fine. Hope all goes well for you too xx
