Just curious. I’m 38 weeks today and weighed myself and I’ve gained nearly 3 stone since getting pregnant! Shock

I’m not conscious of having gained THAT much fat, although my arse and thighs are definitely bigger. I was just wondering how much of the weight gain is likely to be baby/fluid/placenta/blood etc?

I think I am the only person in history to have lost less than he weight of the baby I’d given birth to when I was in hospital. I weighed myself the day before I went into labour. DS was EMCS and we were in hospital for 2 days post delivery. I weighed myself when I got home. I hadn’t even lost his entire birth weight, let alone the fluid that would have been around him plus the bloody placenta. How can that be?

THELETTER we’ve crossed posts and you are the only person that I have ever heard of who had the same experience as me! How can it be??!

Looking back, I think I gained quite a bit of the weight in the first trimester, which you’re not really supposed to do - but it was partly because the morning sickness that could only be controlled by eating carbs constantly, and partly because I felt too shit to follow my usual exercise regime!

I did have a scan last week where they said he’s a big baby and I’ve got lots of fluid, so fingers crossed for a big drop Grin

Was 7st 12 went up to 10st 2 and was about 9st when I got home from hospital. Lost another few pounds after a month or so then the last 9lbs wouldn't go. Went back to the gym when my baby was 4 months old just twice a week and lost the remainder in 8 weeks and then quit 😀

I thought I was all baby and everyone kept telling me how neat my bump was so I was a bit 😮 when I was a stone heavier after. It was only then that I noticed my thighs and bum were bigger and even my arms a little, my waist was bigger. It does just go in a little everywhere even when u think it hasn't 😕

I lost 26lbs in the first 11 days after giving birth and then put loads back on 🙈

I didn't eat excessively, and went to the gym up until 22 weeks, but had to stop due to risk of pre term labour. I put on just under 4 stone, I was so swollen at the end and seemed to retain a lot of water. I was fifteen pounds down in the first week, then by the time DD was approx three weeks my swelling had pretty much gone and I was down another stone from memory. I remember when she was around 12 weeks that I was a stone and a bit off of my pre birth weight, which I didn't think was too bad.

Both times I put on 3 stone, both times I lost 1 stone immediately and the other 2 over the course of a year. Both times I put in a fair chunk in the first trimester because I was ravenous, interestingly though I had about 12 litres of fluid from swelling due to pre eclampsia the first time and looked horrifically swollen, second time I had almost no swelling, ate way better but still gained the same amount, baby was 4ozs bigger but 2 weeks later at 39 weeks.

This thread is encouraging. I've also gained 3 stone and I'm really hoping I lose a minimum of 1 in the first few weeks because I lost 1.5 stone without too much difficulty last year (to try and get pregnant!l so 2 feels doable!

SlimGin · 09/07/2019 00:31

I think I lost at least a stone in the first week. When I got pregnant I was 9st, increased to 10 1/2 st when heavily pregnant, now I'm 9 months post partum and 8 stone. I didn't feel particularly healthy though and as EBF I definitely should have eaten more. The weight dropped off so quickly which I was happy with, but probably would have been better for both me and DD if it was more gradual

Nat6999 · 09/07/2019 00:35

I was 16 stone when I went in hospital, 12 stone when I got home 6 days later & within a month I was 9 stone. I had a horrific birth & was very ill, didn't eat all the time I was in hospital & didn't eat much for the first month I was home, I had been so poorly & got PND, it took me a good 6 months to be back to normal.

Surfingtheweb · 09/07/2019 00:45

I think age is a big factor, I left hospital with my first and wore size 6 jeans, my second I was 21 & in weeks I was back in size 6. Now I'm 40 (almost) my size 6 and metabolism are long gone 😂

Strokethefurrywall · 09/07/2019 01:08

Put on 20lbs with both, lost 17lbs/18lbs respectively by the time my OB checked me a week later.
