Hiya,
I've googled this topic to death and can't seem to find much of any help!

Just wondered if anyone here had already packed their bag or had already had a baby and could tell me what/how much they've packed!

Thanks!

When i packed for my son when he was born a couple of years ago i packed:

Three outfits (vest, babygrow, mits, hat) in different sizes (new born, 0-3, 3-6) just incase they are tiny or huge!

Also a special going home outfit for pictures if you want to

Nappies again in different sizes just incase

Muslins (and try to get it smelling of you for comfort)

Cotton wool (not wipes when they are new born)

I also packed a teddy which turned out to be handy as we were separated for a little while and it made me feel better he wasnt alone (he still has it in his cot now)

A dummy if you are planning to use them

You really dont need much for a newborn as long as they have you and lots of cuddles they are very happy, oh and food and nappies!

😊

Midwives suggested at antenatal class 4 baby grows and vests, few nappies and cotton wool for changing, thin breathable blanket and formula/bottles if you intend to formula feed. The hospital we will be using provide their own hats as they use the colours for a medical prompt but if yours doesn’t they say to get a light weight cotton one

Oh yeah i forgot about the blanket 🤦‍♀️

Have packed mine this week! For baby we have:
3 x vests and 3 x babygrows in newborn size, 1 of each in 0-3 size
2 hats, 2 pairs socks, 2 pairs scratch mitts
Nappies
Cotton wool and water wipes (just in case)
Going home outfit
Portable changing mat
Blanket
Muslins
Comforter blankie - I’m sleeping with this at the moment so it smells of me

Also packing an extra bag to keep at home jus in case of longer stays - extra clothing, nappies, cotton wool and muslins

And a wee hat 😍
Light cotton if baby is due now

meow1989 · 13/07/2019 10:41

I did 3 outfits 0-3 months, 2 outfits up to 1 month. Nappies, cotton wool, blanket. I only packed 1 hat and this got a bit bloody as they put it on them straight after delivery so would recommend 2 hats.

meow1989 · 13/07/2019 10:42

Mittens are a good shout too

Kej13 · 15/07/2019 17:17

Thanks everyone! I've got just under 10 weeks until I'm due so probably a little early in doing this but I love being prepared 😂 just aware he could be early and would hate not to be ready! Xxx

FairyDust92 · 15/07/2019 22:38

I packed for my little boy:
First size and 0-3 beats and baby grows.
Snuggle blanket for him.
Breast pads
Toothbrush
Baby hats!!!
Nappies
Cotton wool pads
Ready made milk
Dummy

blueskiesbrighteyes · 15/07/2019 22:40

Don't bother with mittens as they'll be too big - use tiny baby socks instead. Although tbh you don't need either as their scratches fade so fast when they're newborn

Florencenotflo · 15/07/2019 22:57

They usually put a hat on baby as soon as they are born @Nomnom2 they might have had a quick wipe over but they can lose a lot of heat through their heads. Baby will usually have a hat put on and given back for skin to skin or wrapped up in a towel.

I dont think Dd was bathed for about 10 days, it's meant to be better for their skin if you leave it a little while though. We were just too knackered to do a full bath, she survived with a wipe down with a flannel and water.

Florencenotflo · 15/07/2019 22:59

Oh and most newborn and first size baby grows have built in fold over scratch mitts. Check yours, I ended up only buying ones that had this because I hated the mitts being separate!

Pinktinker · 16/07/2019 08:27

I packed:
Four sleepsuits
A cardigan
Blanket
Pack of nappies
Two packs of wipes
A hat

He only needed two of those sleepsuits. I didn’t bother with vests because hospitals are roasting hot and he only went outside for two minutes walking to the car.

Pinktinker · 16/07/2019 08:28

And yeah sleepsuits with integral scratch mitts are best, actual scratch mitts fall off constantly.

Nomnom2 · 17/07/2019 13:41

@Florencenotflo oh.. we have different procedures in our country.they used to wipe our babies before giving them for skin to skin contact... m new to uk... n i find this wierd hehe... pr atleast i hope they wipe them...

Florencenotflo · 17/07/2019 18:25

@Nomnom2 you can ask though! I didn't get skin to skin with dd. She was whisked off briefly due to c section because there was meconium in the waters. When she came back she was wrapped up in a towel. But I know from friends experiences that you can definitely ask that baby is wiped down before being passed back to you for cuddles.

Kej13 · 23/07/2019 18:23

Thanks everyone! What did people pack for themselves?? It's so hard to know so would be great to hear from people who have been there and done it! Xxx
