I just get bits and pieces as and when I see them at a good price. We got a car seat early as we had a discount code with Bounty app. Got a few clothes when we went to a second hand baby market and have since just picked up bits and pieces we like/ that are a reasonable price. We keep getting the same advice from people of only needing baby grows to start with and blankets/ muslin cloths. We have a couple of bits in different sizes and intend to get anything additional we need once his here.

@melonballer1234 We have everything and I am 25 weeks with my second! Id say by 35 weeks you want to have most things...

Clothes just get vests x7 baby grows with attached mittens x7 and hats if your wanting to be minimal. nice thick blanket for walks etc! I buy up-to 1 month as my DD was 8LB 9... everyone in my family has bigger baby's 😁

I'm 15 weeks and have already been buying - I just wanted to spread out the cost so mostly been shopping in the sales. I always feel happier when I'm prepared lol.

I'm 14+4 and started buying stuff yesterday, I'm the same as PP. Wanted to spread the cost out. I know most of the stuff I need so just buying it when it goes in a sale.

If you have a car then get yourself a car seat asap - this is the main thing as you won't be able to drive your baby home from the hospital without one. They vary a lot in price so you probably want to shop around and do a bit research beforehand, and you may want to book in a professional fitting.

With everything else I found it best to buy stuff gradually, that way you're spreading the cost and you're giving yourself time to shop around and do some research.

Main things to think about would be cot and pram. Also you need to decide if you're doing cloth or disposable nappies, cosleeping, baby wearing, breast or bottle feeding etc. This will dictate a lot of the shopping that you need to do.

I know it seems like a lot to think about but I found it really useful to make a list and just deal with things one at a time!

Also try not to get too worked up about it - shops still exist when you have a baby. If you suddenly realise you didn't get the right nappies or something then you can always ask DH/friend/relative to pop out and grab something.

Oh and I'm 34 weeks and still not got everything yet! I got the big stuff - pram, car seat, cot - towards the beginning, and now I'm gradually buying the little stuff as I go.

I’m 13+5 and I have my travel system (Fb market place bargain I had to snap up), baby bath and changing mat. Again Fb bargains! The mat was free! The bath has moulded support which I’ve never seen before so got it due to me having a section. Thought it might be easier! Clothes wise I’ll wait until my scan where hopefully I’ll find out what it is :) unless I see bargains I’ll just wait until I know what I’m having. I’ll buy my reusable nappies about 30 weeks so I can get them washed. Xx

With both of mine I bought after the 20 week reassurance scan and before 36 weeks.

You really don't need much.

Travel: Group 0+/i-size car seat, lie flat pushchair, raincover and liner and/or sling.
Feeding: Lansinoh, breast pads and/or 4-6 bottles, steriliser, formula.
Sleep: crib/basket/cot, mattress, 3x sheets, 3x cellular blankets.
Changing: mat, nappies, wipes (I used cloth), 8x babygrows with mitts, 8x vests, 2x outer layer (cardigans etc), hat. I bought newborn but my 7lb babies needed tiny baby for the first 4-6 weeks.

Optional extras I found useful: bath support and feeding cushion.

stucknoue · 08/07/2019 07:13

You need far less than you think!

Think of it like this:
Something to sleep in
Something to travel in on foot
Car seat
Things to keep baby warm go the above

Then
Nappies and wipes
Bodysuits (pack of 7)
Sleepsuits (a few)
Feeding equipment (not needed if breastfeeding)
Things to keep baby clean, eg bubble bath, shampoo, a baby bath (though I used the sink, less backbreaking).

Everything else really is extra, I would buy these essentials by around 34 weeks and try to leave off buying cute stuff especially in the small sizes, they grow super quick. Do look into cloth nappies but I recommend disposables in the newborn size as they grow out of them in a couple of weeks

RollOnSummerBreak · 08/07/2019 13:05

With dd I did a massive shop. At 15 weeks for all. Clothes, blankets etc.
Then at 20 for. Pram. And car seat followed by crib and. Other large items. Was completely done by 25 weeks.
I've kept most of the stuff
But if this is a boy ill. Have to sell the girl Stuff to make space for the boy stuff
Pram. And car seat still be OK though as neutral.

HJWT · 09/07/2019 15:39

Amazon is great for baby stuff xx

tisonlymeagain · 09/07/2019 16:30

I'll start after 20 weeks, mainly because I don't have a lot of space for stuff to be hanging around longer than it needs to be!

This is my 3rd, but first with a new partner and we have nothing so starting from scratch, however I am doing things so differently this time. First time around I was so excited I needed EVERYTHING and a whole nursery kitted out. This time I'm getting travel system, crib for bedroom and bare essentials for clothing and feeding. I probably won't find out the sex so will enjoy going shopping for some little outfits when baby arrives!
