My mum advised me to use pepermint cordial. Put a small amount in a cup and add a little bit boiled water and leave to cool and sip when you get the heartburn.
It works wonders for me

When I run out of Gaviscon, I just drink really cold milk slowly. I know loads of people say that milk makes it worse, but it works fine for me.

I sooo empathise with you - I'm having the same problem... (not right now but most nights).

Milk usually works for me but occasionally it makes it worse Also, a banana can sometimes help.

I sip water in the night too and although it doesn't necessarily get rid of it, it kind of provides temporary relief - I think it waters down all the acid(?) I also try to sleep propped up a bit.

I'll be watching to see if anybody comes up with any other remedies!

I always found that water made mine worse when pg with my 2. Try sleeping on your left hadn side - it works a treat - not sure why but it did for me.

Hello!
Thanks for all the great tips.

I find drinking cold milk and eating bread to soak up acid made it worse in previous pregs so have steered clear of it this time.

Have been keeping ice cold water by my bed. Usually means i have to wake up in the night a million times to pee though!!!

Attempted the peppermint cordial remedy until i realised i had no peppermint cordial so settled for a warm cup of peppermint tea before bed and it actually worked quite well.
Give it a try!

I get it horribly as my baby is breech and spends its a lot of the night waving its head under my ribs I've found that positioning works best - I either get up for ten mins if it's really bad to let the acid settle or sleep on about 3-4 pillows. Having my head raised seems to really help.

Try putting bricks under the head end of the bed just to tilt you head up slightly and keep things down better.
