Hi ladies, Im new to mums net, currently 19 weeks with my first and im 38yrs old. I just wondered if there are any other older first time mums on the forum? It took a while for us to concieve, we had been trying on and off since i was 33, i suffered a miscarriage at 36 and i kind of had it in my head if i got to 37/38 i would stop trying because i felt too old. Now that i am pregnant im over the moon and so happy but its still in the back of my mind im going to be an old mum. Has anyone else felt like that?

I'm not a first time mum but feel I might as well be as my older ones are teenagers now. I will be over 40 when this one arrives.

I won't lie it does bother me a little bit but have to say when it came to school etc with my others, at 30 I was pretty much the youngest. So I have no fear that I'll be the oldest mum in the playground.

Yes! I’m 40 and 11w at the mo. TTC has been a nightmare for us. Will be even harder for DH as he’s nearly 50 😂

Hi. I had my first at 38 years old. Easy, straightforward pregnancy. I do wish I’d had him earlier, but it took me a while to get pregnant, and I figured everything happens at the right time. I felt, because of my age, I wanted him to have a sibling. That’s been a nightmare! 2 miscarriages and over a year of not conceiving at all. So much so we gave up. I’m current 20 weeks pregnant at 42. I don’t feel any different to when I was 30. In fact I’m healthier now, but I do feel like the people that know my age have judged me as too old. I know quite a few first time mums that are older than I am, so I think it’s more common than you think. Good luck with your pregnancy.

Me too.. first time pregnancy, now at 17 weeks and have just turned 40. To be honest as long as the pregnancy and birth go well I am not worried about being an older mum.. can’t do anything to change it and in fact I’m hoping it might make me grow up a bit!!

I’m 40 and first time mum. I’m 25 weeks today.
I’ve been a nanny for over 24 years, so know what I’m letting myself in for.
I’m consultant lead, because of age etc, but otherwise I’m not worried

I’m not a first time mum but I had my first in 97 my second in 99 and now my third is due September and I’m 42 so I’ll have experience of been a young and old mum, new partner and this baby was a complete surprise 😀

Not a first time mum but I’ll be 40 when I have my third. My older 2 are 17 and 14 and feel like it’s all new as such a big gap. I had my kids at 22 and 25 and I honestly feel it’s going to be easier this time as i’m older, wiser and more prepared. (Or will be when got things) currently 10 weeks 4 days. I’m not bothered about being an older mum. When I did school runs there was a big mix of young and older mums and everyone just got on with it as we were all in the same boat. Good luck to you. Xx

I'm 30 weeks with my first at 38 years old.

russiandwarf · 07/07/2019 09:59

I'm 27 weeks and 39, this will be my first and I turn 40 not long after due date. We had about 6 years of trying on and off and had missed miscarriages and chemical pregnancy and were about to start IVF, so although I feel old it couldn't be helped really! I have a friend who just had her third and another who is trying for her first both same age. Everyone else I know had their children in their thirties so I don't feel too bad about it!

Its so nice to hear from all of you and reassuring to know theres other first time and 2nd/3rd time mums around the same age. I probably feel fitter now than i did in my 20s and early 30s but i always feel especially when trying to concieve that the clock is ticking which i feel can make it even more stressful. Wishing everyone lots of good health and happiness in your pregnancies Smile

Congratulations x

I’m 47 and expecting Nos 1&2. Am currently 27+3 and feel generally well and everything is pretty ok except growth of T2 is down a bit which fetal medicine specialist thinks is probably as a result of placental insufficiency. I’m having fortnightly growth scans and consultant appointments at small for gestational age clinic.
