Bringing baby home from hospital

Hello, I'm due at the end of september and planning some clothes for the baby both in hospital, and to bring her home.
For coming home, I'm trying to figure out if we'll just need a vest, babygrow, cardi and jacket, or if I'm best to look at a pram suit type thing instead of just a jacket?!
Hard to know weather wise and I'm a first time mum so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think a vest and a baby grow will probably be alright, and maybe a blanket if you're worried about the cold? Oh and a hat!

OhWifey · 05/07/2019 15:43

Babies shouldn't wear pramsuits in car seats whatever the weather so a blanket will be fine for if it's cold

If you're driving home then I wouldn't worry about a pram suit as you aren't supposed to put them in those in a car seat. Layer up with blankets/mittens/hat if necessary. If you're going by public transport / in the pram then definitely buy one and have it on standby in case it's chilly.

No Pramsuit no jacket. Just throw a blanket over.

Thanks all, I thought the jacket / pramsuit might be a bit OTT but just wanted a second opinion, thank you x

I am due around the same time, and for the life of me, couldn't remember what the weather is going to be like around that time!

The weather is often so unpredictable.

cardigan outer layer at most and a blanket and hat.

Purplequalitystreet · 05/07/2019 17:21

I'm due 25th September and I wasn't planning on a pramsuit. I'm just going to take a few blankets so I can layer up if necessary.

Congratulations! Such an exciting moment. I have brought all of mine home in a vest and babygro with a hat and blanket for the outdoor transfer. I usually take the hat and blanket off for the car journey though.

I'm due 28th Sept 🤗
Blankets wont be a problem for me, seem to have a bit of an obsession with them 🤦‍♀️

Pram suits and jackets should never be used in car seat. As it stops the car seat from being fastened securely. The car seat itself is an extra layer. It’s very easy for babies to over heat in car seats.

FloatingthroughSpace · 05/07/2019 19:33

Ah NewMama, my first was also due 28th Sept.

He finally shifted on 9th October!!
He still only needed a cardi and blanket.

TerriB1984 · 05/07/2019 20:33

My DD was a january baby and we still only had her in a vest, sleepsuit and cardigan with a blanket.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 05/07/2019 20:48

My DD was born in September and we brought her home dressed in a sleep suit (think babygro with full arms and legs and a hat plus a blanket to put over her once clicked into the car seat.

troppibambini · 05/07/2019 21:00

Mum of four here and yes vest, baby grow and cardi with a hat will be fine.
One of the things I used most with all my babies were the tuppence and crumble starblankets brilliant and very cute too.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 05/07/2019 21:08

Definitely just a vest and babygro and blankets if needed.

I packed a lovely Winnie The Pooh outfit to bring my firstborn home in. Took a while to wrestle him in to the cardigan and do up the stupidly tiny buttons (what was I thinking).
He did a massive poop all over it and it was ruined!

For my second I just packed a normal babygro and popped a blanket over once baby was safely strapped in the car seat. Smile

Oh and a little hat if it’s chilly
