Oh the joys of being pregnant!

I'm 36 weeks and I've had so much painful trapped wind recently. I woke up last night in absolute agony and was really worried until I realised what it was. It was unbelievably painful!

My diet is relatively healthy. Lots of fruit and salad. Can anyone recommend anything they have found helps ease trapped wind or stops them getting it. It seems to be happen more in the evenings

I haven't tried it but so many people swear by peppermint tea x

Rennies apparently help

TMI, but I sometimes get constipation and trapped wind, but having a long soak in the bath, moving legs up and down alternatively and together as well, towards belly and back (although I am only 27 weeks, so bump not huge), lying sideways on both sides... these movements helps me release wind Blush yes, in the bath Blush

It works, and the wind really needs to come out as like you said, its painful :(

Drinking lots and lots of water, and moving about helps things move along digestive speaking, and i end up burping or going to the loo.

Rennies made me vomit violently Sad im going to try peppermint tea, I'm only 9 weeks but cramps are so bad I keep thinking I'm losing the baby

I have IBS, so this may not apply so much to you, but I need to be very careful about my food intake.

Pregnancy slows down digestion so things are moving more slowly, and if you eat too much fruit, and its' not moving down, it can cause gas.

Maybe not eat too many 'gassy' foods from evening onwards?

Sorry that wasn't helpful, in my first pregnancy I found going on all fours bum in the air and rocking helped

aewwwenxt · 05/07/2019 09:04

I didn't like the names brand heartburn tablets but found Lidl's ones were really good (and cheap with lots of tablets in a packet!)
Rocking back and forth with an arched back so my bump was sticking out more also helped a lot. Otherwise I just had to make myself burp loads whilst drinking water in between. Sometimes my partner even had to burp me 😣 oh the joys of pregnancy 😂

I'm currently 39 weeks and had this throughout my pregnancy. Lactulose. Not nice. But definitely does the trick.

I've been taking these for a while and find they really help me with trapped wind, gas and constipation. They're quite expensive, but even if I skip one day taking them I notice my symptoms are worse, so it's definitely been worth it for me. From Holland and Barrett.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I am going to try some of the movements some of you have suggested
And will get peppermint tea
And look into the other things too! Tbh the more I try the better. Somethings got to work!

Does it often happen at night? Based on your description, I just want to highlight the possibility that it might actually be gallstones. Pregnancy is a common trigger for it, and I mistook mine for trapped wind for weeks. Gallstone pain is common at night and also a few hours after eating fatty foods. You feel it a bit higher than you normally get trapped wind - bra strap kind of height. For many people, it's more on the right hand side (although for me, it was fairly central) and the pain can also radiate to the back.

Deflatine, made by Rennie I think but specifically for trapped wind instead of all round indigestion. Amazing stuff.
