So a gp prescribed me beconase nasal spray but a midwife I spoke to said it wasn't suitable during pregnancy? Who's right? I'm confused lol

I was advised I could take the allergy relief one by my surgery during 1st trimester. Have a hat with the pharmacist and see what they say - tell them you’ve received conflicting information.

I have asked a pharmacist before and they have said they cant advice I would have to see a gp.... u used some last night my hayfever was so bad

I was prescribed by the gp but pharmacist didn't want to give it to me. They did eventually but said to use it for the minimum amount of time possible. I used it for about 8 days. Don't know if that helps!

@mumoftwo1988, I was thinking from the point of view of asking them that your GP has said yes and the midwife has said no so you are confused as to who to follow.

For context, I needed some cream that can contain steroids and gives better relief/quicker treatment or can be given without which takes longer and isn’t guaranteed to work as effectively; I spoke to the midwife about my symptoms and she said they would only prescribe the cream without the steroids until after I’ve given birth; I rang surgery to discuss getting the prescriptions she said I needed and they said that I needed the cream with steroids otherwise I might as well just use Vaseline for all the treatment the other cream would give. And, on reading the patient information leaflet inside the cream’s packaging, it says it is safe to use in pregnancy if done under a Drs guidance.

The books say no to this. The risk is tiny but it exists.

Greggers2017 · 05/07/2019 07:40

I took it the last 2 months of my pregnancy. Was told that and eye drops was the only thing I could have. Continued it now I'm breast feeding

I'd argue that GPs are more qualified than midwives on things like this.

GPs know more about drug interactions and can override manufacturers instructions whereas midwives and pharmacists aren't allowed.

www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/can-i-take-hay-fever-medicine-during-pregnancy/

This is from the NHS. Nothing against midwives but it says nothing about asking a midwife.

Hi,

I’m nearly 17 weeks and was prescribed the exact same one last week. She also gave me cetirizine hydrochloride tablets. Tbh I think most things that are safe during pregnancy still say on instructions to speak to a doctor ect before taking which I suppose makes you think should I be taking this. It would be better if things were stated better but we just have to trust that our gps know what they are doing x

cocomelon23 · 05/07/2019 08:04

I was told not to use it when I was pregnant.

feathermucker · 05/07/2019 08:05

The recommendations are that it's OK if prescribed by a G. P.

sacope · 05/07/2019 08:36

I have asked a pharmacist before and they have said they cant advice I would have to see a gp....

Which you have done!

It's fine;

The risk with medicines is generally they haven't been tested on pregnant women.

Becodefence is safe during pregnancy I have really bad hay fever and was struggling with symptoms someone on another forum mentioned this to me it’s 11.99 at boots but definitely worth it, it’s steroid and anti histamine free coats your nose and stops the symptoms I was apprehensive that it would work but so glad I bought it
