Empty Sac, High HCG, Slow Rising?!?

Ive posted a few times about this but finally got bloods and ultrasound results back.

My LMP seas May 10th, I went for an early scan when I expected to be around 7 weeks. I measured a 15.49mm gestational sac with nothing in it. She advised that sac measurement indicates a 6 week 2 day sac (by which point you should be able to see a baby).

She referred me to the early pregnancy unit who did bloods on Monday that came back at 32,000 which they said was on the high side. They repeated the bloods 48 hours later and they were at 48,000. Because they hadn’t doubled the doctor thinks it’s a non viable pregnancy.

They then did a repeat scan that showed the same as before - an empty sac - but this time measuring 18mm.

I’m going back in 10 days but she is quite concerned because going off my estimated date of conception I would be around 5 weeks pregnant, my HCG is very high but is rising slowly, my gestational sac is quite large to have nothing in and I’m showing no signs of miscarriage.

She then said all hope isn’t lost? And potentially the pregnancy will catch up, but it isn’t looking that way.

Has anyone got any advice or a similar story???

I’m afraid I don’t have any reassuring story for you, but wanted to hear you and say how sorry I am...this stuff really does make Early Pregnancy so terrifying.

HCG can be very elevated if you have antibodies that interfere with pregnancy. So you could have had a viable sac that is being attacked with your own immune system. You might not already be aware if you have no symptoms, and it’s possible that there are other reasons for you current situation, but that’s one plausible explanation. This becomes more possible if you have eczema or psoriasis, or other know autoimmune conditions.

That doesn’t really help. I guess I don’t want to give you false hope, but the dates, give or take, based on LMP would be around 7w by my calculations...so perhaps it’s not as big a jump as you think...it’s true that there is often a heartbeat and some evidence of embryo by this sort of time, but it’s also possible that ovulation occurred later....so maybe it’s just a little delayed.

So sorry to be so confusing. Hope someone else can give you greater reassurance.
