How come everybody knows I'm pregnant?!

I'm only 8 weeks but my mum asked outright if I was pregnant the day after my first positive test, my friend said she knew before I told her and today we told my MIL who apparently had asked FIL a couple of weeks ago if he thought I was pregnant cos she did. I've not been leaving any clues lying about and we didn't tell people we were trying. Has anyone else had this??

My colleague who has had five children guessed. Another colleague also guessed as she said she saw me standing at the photocopier one day and that I looked like someone who had something big on her mind . Interesting because she had only worked in my office for a few weeks at that point and didn't work directly with me. Other colleagues who had worked with me for years didn't guess at all !

@Sandsnake that is so beautiful.
@duckme I totally agree and I think children and animals can see auras because they haven't been dumbed down Grin.

This thread made me realise my MIL had mentioned before I took a test that I looked 'healthy, well in my self' etc.. weird!

One friend has guessed but only because my alcohol consumption in her company has gone down drastically! She knew we were trying, and knew previous attempts hadn't worked, so it wasn't that big a guess. Her husband seems oblivious, and keeps suggesting I want a drink.

My 2 year old DS suddenly became extra cuddly and a few days later I found out I was pregnant. He is still obsessed with burying his face in my boobs just like when he was a baby. I'm sure some instinctive part of him knows something is up!

Flappergirl86 · 03/07/2019 18:45

Good to know I'm not alone! Maybe we release some strange primal smell that some people/animals can still pick up on. I've definitely got more bloated but that's cos I've been eating like a beast.

I’m a bit weird and can tell when people are in the very early stages of pregnancy. I don’t know how, I just know. I learned quickly to keep my mouth shut until people were ready to tell people - sometimes it’s a long wait if I’ve figured it out in the first few weeks!

shoegalj · 03/07/2019 19:25

This has happened to me loads!

I’m a skinny ish woman so as my uterus has grown it’s pushed my belly up so it’s really obvious! My in laws guessed when I wasn’t drinking. One of my colleagues said loudly in my open plan office ‘so you’re pregnant then??!’ What do you say to that? I asked why she thought that and apparently I looked fresher skinned, I wasn’t going out for drinks and always yawning. The cat guessed almost immediately lol.

In my old job our uniform was a tucked in blouse so an untucked blouse was the pregnancy “giveaway”. There was no hiding anything after you’d made the decision to wear your blouse loose Grin we all tried to leave it tucked for as long as possible.

I have a less lovely story. Security guards at worked stopped me and told me I could park in the visitors space once I got a bit bigger (I was about 12 weeks, had only found out at 10 weeks, definitely didn't have a bump). Asked how they knew and they looked at my breasts. So nice to know that the security guards had been closely inspecting the women in sufficient detail to notice pregnancy boobs. 🤮

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 03/07/2019 19:44

Oh spinnaret! What letches! And to point it out to you and make you feel forever conscious of them gazing at your breasts while pregnant! Angry

sweetsaltypopcorn · 03/07/2019 20:36

I'm a teacher and one of my students asked me if I was pregnant. I would have been about 5 weeks at that point. When it was officially announced around 14 weeks I asked how she knew and she said she wasn't sure, she just did! I called her a witch! Grin

Sagradafamiliar · 03/07/2019 20:58

I can tell by people's noses. There's a presenter on TV who will be announcing soon, all being well.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/07/2019 21:31

What happens to noses, @Sagradafamiliar? Can you describe it? DP says my face changes at ovulation. Do you notice that in women too?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 03/07/2019 21:33

There is a change in some women’s noses. Not sure what it is that gives it away. Some get a bit wider but I’m not sure I would notice it early enough in a pregnancy to tell before the bump was there! Grin

Flowersandrainbows2017 · 03/07/2019 22:20

I wish people wouldn’t actually ask, even if they suspect! Let people tell their news when they are ready to Smile.

With me, I swear people at work in particular are guessing as we are a close team, but I told one colleague the other day (bad day on the sickness front, needed the help!) and she had no clue, was totally shocked (excited, but shocked!) so maybe I’m just being paranoid!

The MIL is desperate for a grandchild and asks on a regular basis when we’re going to give her one... so she’s just going to spoil the surprise for herself!

Duckyneedsaclean · 03/07/2019 22:24

It's because you retain water, it shows in your face straight away.

starzig · 03/07/2019 22:40

I have a colleague that is starting to do a lot less combined with more in late days. I suspect she is pregnant. Sometimes it's the small things.

Bluerussian · 03/07/2019 22:41

Sometimes you can just tell when someone is pregnant, I've observed it a couple of times.

notso · 03/07/2019 22:53

You can just tell in some people.
DH said to me one day when we were TTC DC2 "do a test your pregnant" it was several days before my period was due but I did the test and it was positive.
Similarly I was chatting to my neighbour and her 16 yo daughter years ago and the daughter just looked pregnant. Not because of a bump it was just a look. The next week my neighbour came round in tears because her DD was pregnant.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 04/07/2019 13:32

My dog was first to know, I did a test based on him.

I had to tell my mam the other day (I am 7 + 4) and she said she was not surprised as she guessed the last time we were up visiting by how my DP and I were acting, she called it woman's intuition. Could explain why her and my nana were randomly talking about how my nana had my mam at 24, and my mam had me at 24. (it was my 30th birthday!)
