Palpitations?

I’m 22w today.

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been feeling quite tired, which I have not noticed so far this pregnancy. I have also felt distinct palpitations that last for approx 30secs and associated light headedness. Usually when inactive as opposed to a response to activity, which would sort of make sense. I’m generally fit, still out jogging etc (just about!) and walking plenty-my job is physical in that sense.

I’m sure that this is all quite normal, but just wanting a bit of reassurance...anyone? 😊

Yes I’ve had these for a few weeks, think mine are anxiety related but definitely worse when I haven’t slept well..
I hate them and they really scare me and that makes them worse so I try not to react. X

Have you had your iron checked lovely?

All signs of anaemia. I would just pop to the doctors to have them check all your levels - although being pregnant and the anxiety that comes with it is enough to make you feel it too.

devilishlygood · 01/07/2019 21:23

Thanks for sharing @Kate....would you consider them worth mentioning to the MW? Would you make a call specifically about it??

Yeah id tell the midwife just to see what she says x

devilishlygood · 01/07/2019 21:29

Thanks all, I’ll make a call in the morning.

I had a fairly stressful first trimester with bleeding and N&V, but I feel like I’ve settled in to pregnancy now... I certainly wouldn’t think I was anxious necessarily. But who knows!? 🤷‍♀️

I hadn’t considered iron levels... but if diet has any bearing on that, it’s very possible I’m low!! I’ve had very peculiar aversions!

I was going to post about this myself earlier
I’m 15 weeks and been getting them quite regularly . They are just the miss one beat then a heavier beat , they only last a second.
Before pregnancy I noticed them if my diet had been poor and to be honest I feel like I might be unconsciously using pregnancy as an excuse to eat rubbish so I’m taking it as a sign to eat better
In your case though if they are lasting that long and causing dizziness etc I would see the doctor

I had palpitations in my last pregnancy, was a bit un-nerved by them as felt quite strong so mentioned it to my midwife who refered me to the GP. I ended up having an ECG which showed things were normal for pregnancy, think our bodies pump more blood round during pregnancy which can change heart rhythm a bit.
If you're worried definitely mention it to your midwife, no harm in getting it checked

Kate3150 · 01/07/2019 21:52

@devilishlygood- I went to the GP and she checked blood pressure, heart rate etc. It was a really reassuring visit so I would say GP be first port of call. I got seen very quickly, I understand not everyone has the same experience but my surgery are fantastic x

I had similar - most days whilst resting, but with no dizziness. Started on iron supplements and a few weeks later they are now only very occasional so expect linked to anaemia. Also restless legs has become less bad - I believe that can also be due to anaemia

Rotorua · 01/07/2019 22:31

I had it after after a hospital visit when I was 19 weeks. For me it lasted 2 days. Always happened when I was resting in the sofa or bed. As I knew it was stress related I didn't call a GP or midwife, but I think I would have if it lasted more than 3 days

Bol87 · 01/07/2019 22:35

Guys - almost def you’d iron levels. I struggled on for weeks feeling exhausted, having palpitations, night sweats, dizziness. I had my heart monitored for 24 hours (all fine) but my bloods came as quite severely anaemic! I ended up needing an infusion as well as iron tablets for the rest of pregnancy & they still never climbed back up properly until post birth! But the infusion helped me feel loads better!

voxnihili · 02/07/2019 05:45

Definitely get it checked out. It's likely just a normal pregnancy thing but in my case it turned out to be a heart condition I didn't know I had. I was given an ECG in A&E after my midwife noticed things weren't quite right (her words when checking my pulse were 'I've never heard anything like that') and it was obvious from that that there was a problem. Bloods came back fine to show it wasn't anaemia etc. I'd felt the palpitations since about 7 weeks pregnant and by the time I got admitted to hospital at 28 weeks they were almost constant.

The likelihood is that it's just a normal pregnancy thing, or anaemia but please get it checked out just in case.

Fortheloveofscience · 02/07/2019 08:09

Im 28 weeks and got them a bit in first trimester, then again in the last few weeks. Generally only once a day ish in the evenings and worse when I’m run down and over-tired or if I’ve just had on a big meal (like half an hour after my chip shop dinner last night Blush). I had my bloods tested last week for my routine 28w appointment and I’m not anaemic, just one of those pregnancy things.

Triskaidekaphilia · 02/07/2019 09:24

Agree with getting iron levels checked. I had horrible heart palpitations which used to wake me up in the middle of the night. Midwife said it was just anxiety until I had my full blood count and it showed my iron was a little low. About 10 days after starting tablets they were gone.

devilishlygood · 02/07/2019 14:07

Called the midwife and she’s invited me to go in for iron levels blood test and ECG this afternoon. Thank you xx
