Confused about advice re movements

Hi helpful people. Can anyone give me some clarity? I’m 39 weeks and baby’s movements have been suddenly slow the last few days. She is moving, just not quite as much as before. However on Tuesday she was kicking up a storm, more movement than she had done for ages (she’s been quieter in general for the past month I guess because of her growth), then on weds I was in hospital all day being monitored and checked for cholestasis and also had a growth scan. She was moving normally that day and everything on the monitors was great. The next day she was quieter and she has been since. At first I thought we’ve both had a busy week so she’s resting from it! But then the worry creeps in.

The last time I called triage and said ‘she’s been slow for a few days, but she can be like that on weekends when my pattern changes’. They just told me to see if she moved again that day. Well, she did move. But is that the bar? She is moving, so is that all that matters? I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and I’m exhausted, I’d certainly rather wait for that than go to hospital again. But I don’t want to take any risks.

I’m just confused about when you should worry about movements.

You triage advised you incorrectly. Any chance, decrease or increase, should be looked into and straightaway. Please go to the hospital to be checked over.

I was at the assessment centre the other day and they told me they don’t worry about intensity or number of movements, just that the ‘pattern’ hasn’t changed. Bit difficult if like me baby doesn’t really have much of a pattern. I’ve been told conflicting things from other midwives tho - like ‘any change whatsoever give us a ring’. If you’re at all worried I’d give them another call- always better to be safe than sorry, and you’re sooo close to due date that they might be a bit more pro-active about it!!

I would go get checked, the advice worryingly seems to vary; I was told any change to the normal pattern (which will be different for everyone) should be checked out.

Ok thank you guys, you’ve encouraged me to call and I’m heading in now to be monitored.
