Loss of morning sickness

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and from 5 weeks had really bad morning sickness; physically sick, big aversion to certain smells, retching...the lot! However, over the past week this has practically gone and I'm worried that my hormones are dipping & I could lose the baby.

Silly thing is, I had a scan last week and baby was right length & heart beat was strong.

Am I worrying needlessly?

P.S. History is m/c, dd (3.5yrs), m/c, current pregnancy.

Not sure - every pregnancy is so different it's impossible to say. The only advice I would give would be, if you are worried, phone your midwife tomorrow. If you are very worried and can't wait, phone the emergency midwife / local labour suite and ask for advice on what to do. My labour suite had me in straight away whenever there was a slight problem. It won't do you any good to worry. Hope all is well.

With two miscarriages behind you you deserve to be seen straight away about any worry and to be scanned every week if need be.

A strong heart beat at 8 weeks is a really good sign as I'm sure you must know. But I agree with Rowlers, get yourself seen tomorrow, don't leave yourself to agonise over the weekend.

Hope all's well.

I remember various of my symptoms fading around the 10 week mark - just because the books say various things last until the end of the first trimester, doesn't mean that they last until the end of week 13... but would agree that for your peace of mind, still worth checking with your midwife if you are still very worried. IIRC in a normal PG hormones start dipping somewhere between weeks 10 and 12 - does this sound about right?

With dd1 I was soooooo sick from about week 6 until week 10, then it disappeared as quickly as it went, and I thought exactly the same as you. Even went and bought a pg test just to be sure.

See your midwife if you are really worried though.

Thanks for all your words of support. I actually got so worked up that on Wed called my Early Pregnancy Unit and have got another scan on Monday but it seems so long to wait.

Phone up tomorrow in that case and ask if they can squeeze you in. Start crying if they say no! They won't though, surely. Don't wait until Monday if you can get peace of mind tomorrow.

Jude,

I think that you are worrying needlessly, but I would DEFO phine the midwife in the morning, maybe you could be squeezed into the schedule for another scan, or they could listen to the heartbeat, (not sure if they can so early),

You really don't want this to be hanging over your head all weekend, BUT I was so glad to be rid of my morning sickness! 12 weeks is a guidleine and not set in stone, could you have got your dates slightly wrong. Or you could be just lucky to not have had the ful twelve weeks. I had 8 weeks feeling horrible with DD, and a whole pregnancy feeling horrible with DS.

Make sure you put your mind to rest before the weekend, and make sure your DH and DD look after you at the weekend

Rowler, post crossed

JudeB · 16/09/2004 19:58

Kalex, dates are correct as they tied up with the scan last Friday. I know I should be glad not to be sick but this is what happened with the first m/c although I did have bleeding very early on and later before the 12wk scan. I've had no bleeding this time and no other symptoms of m/c.

Jude phone the MW in the morning, and if no joy phone for an emergency GP appointment, they will have your records, and tell them how you are feeling. Their job is to look after their patient - and thats you! If you are distressed about this they need to do something. If that doesn't work, phne the out of hours surgery after 6, and speak to someone else, go in, explain again.

Keep doing this. It's a 5 minute scan, You will feel SOOO much better if you get it.

JudeB · 20/09/2004 10:25

Just to let you know, had scan this morning and baby is absolutely fine. Good heart, stubby legs and arms and grown 8mm since last scan.

So now I'm just going to enjoy the fact that I don't have my head down the toilet most of the day!!!

Thank you so much to everyone for all your messages.
