What size nappies?

Hi, I know there have been threads discussing what size clothes your newborns wore which are really helpful, so what size nappies were they in?
I have a pack of Aldi and pack of Asda both in size 1, but they seem quite big for a newborn

Do you know estimated size? Size 1 lasted my first 2 dc for 2 weeks, and 3rd for less. Relatives who’ve had more average size (7lb) babies have not needed to go below size 1.

Moveit123 · 30/06/2019 18:26

My son was in size 1 for only 1 week. He was 8lb 8oz and very long. 11 months now and just gone in size 6. I wouldn't buy any more than what you have.

IVEgottheDECAF · 30/06/2019 18:43

I have two small packs of size 1 and one big pack of size 2

My last baby was 8lb9 and the size 1 say up to 11lb.

emma911030 · 30/06/2019 18:45

I just got size 1 nappies. They were big on him (7lb11) but they didn't leak or anything I used both pampers and Aldi x

stucknoue · 30/06/2019 18:52

Get 1 pack of new born, you can always buy extra

Biancadelrioisback · 30/06/2019 18:59

We had the special preemie ones as DS came at 34 weeks but he steadily outgrew them

voxnihili · 30/06/2019 20:53

I wouldn't buy more than a couple of packs. DD (7lb3) lasted about a month in size 1 and a month in size 2. She didn't poo very often so we didn't go through anywhere near as many nappies as some of my friends. She's now nearly 11 months and still in size 3.

One thing I've done is have a packet of the next size up in the house. Whenever I'm going to stock up, I try one of the next size up first so that I don't end up with loads that she's grown out of. I've currently had a packet of size 4 since December and been surprised how long she's stayed in size 3!

@Moveit123 size 6 at 11 months?! He must a long one!!!
My DC was in one for a few months, 2 for around the same and 3 from 8/9 months for a while! We’ve stocked up from Aldi again this time around. My first was 6lb2

Thursday452poh · 30/06/2019 20:57

Also Aldi aren’t great for size 3 and above- we then switched to pampers

Moveit123 · 01/07/2019 06:00

@Thursday452poh
He's huge at 27lb and very very long. Actually not quite 11 months yet will be In A few days. Everyone comments on his size and think he's much older.
Yes we also switched to pampers from aldi too from size 3. Pampers seem a better fit.

Mrsmummy90 · 01/07/2019 07:13

My dd was in size one for a couple of months and she was 7lbs born

JaJu14 · 01/07/2019 07:26

My son was 7lb 8oz but grew very rapidly (more than doubled birth weight by 4 months) size 1 didn't last him long plus size 2 holds more pee so less prone to leaks should baby sleep longer than expected.
For this baby on the way I'm just going to buy 1 pack of size 1 and a fee packs size 2 to last the first few weeks 😊

BTW I found that asda, tesco and aldi nappies would leak even after just an hour or 2 so I had to buy pampers for my boy. He did and still does pee a lot though lol

pizzaorpine · 01/07/2019 07:29

My DS fitted prem nappies for a good month and he was 7lb 8oz.

He's now a Size 3 at 19 months.

physicskate · 01/07/2019 08:43

My dd was in size 0 for about a week or two (wow she's only 15 weeks! How quickly we forget!). Size one for about a month. Then size 2 for about 7 weeks. She's been in size 3 for about two weeks now.

She was 6lb 9oz when born, so a bit little but not teeny. We only had size 1 when she was born but had to rush and get smaller. They did nothing to hold the meconium!!

cardboard33 · 01/07/2019 11:05

Different brands of nappies have different weights for size 1 etc. Mine was 7lbs and was in size 1 Aldi nappies for about 10 weeks. We probs should have got some size 0 as they drowned him when he was first born but as they didn't leak we didn't bother. He then moved up to size 2 Aldi and we also had some Asda which are up to 13lbs and has literally just grown out of those at 17 weeks but he's now big enough for Pampers size 2 as they go up to 18lbs so was too small until now. We also had some Pampers size 1 but he didn't wear them until about 8 weeks as they were too big.

JaJu14 · 01/07/2019 16:57

I didn't know you could get size 0 nappies lol

Bol87 · 01/07/2019 18:11

My little one was 8lb on the dot & went happily into size 1 for maybe a month.. we used Aldi all the way up to her going into nappy pants. We never had any issues what so ever. Interestingly, the friends I made at baby classes who had boys said Aldi where awful. Those of us with girls loved them!

I agree, don’t overstock. Get a couple packs. Life carries on after the baby, you can send your other half out to the nearest supermarket or do an Amazon order of pampers!

Lexyness · 01/07/2019 18:58

The whole nappy size thing confuses me too! Expecting dc4 and with my other 3 there were newborn nappies, then size 1, size 2 etc. I can’t find newborn (so what would be size zero I suppose) anywhere! And my others needed tiny baby nappies (and clothes) for a couple of weeks before even going into newborn! As a result I have already got over 200 of what they now class as newborn (size 1) nappies in different brands! They recommend changing a newborns nappy 10-12 times a day so if you think about it - that’s a lot of nappies! Also you can fold the top over before taping, and the tape can overlap, so it’s not too much of an issue if they are a little too big, but there is the worry of leaking! I suppose it all depends on what size baby you have, and I have small ones 🙈 x

MyDcAreMarvel · 01/07/2019 20:57

@Moveit123 size six at 11 months? My dd will Sen is in size six at five years old.
Size 6 doesn’t seem right at all it’s weight not length.

Moveit123 · 02/07/2019 06:17

@MyDcAreMarvel
Yep. They fit him perfectly never leaks or anything. He was in size 5s from 7 months but they started marking him due to getting tight.

MrsGrannyWeatherwax · 02/07/2019 06:25

Different brands have different weights on them, if you can get a small selection to try to find the brands you like.

Size 0 - (newborn) below 5lb was for the first 8-10 weeks (we had to buy loads of stuff last minute)
Size 1 - 10 weeks to 20 weeks
Size 2 - 20 weeks to 8 months

We use Sainsbury’s / Asda / Morrison’s and Pampers - but less keen on Sainsbury’s now. Lidl and Aldi were too loose as my baby is very slight

LexieLoos · 02/07/2019 06:31

Thanks for your responses everyone - who knew nappies were such a minefield!
I won’t buy any more size 1s now, but will get a small pack of size 0 just in case I think. I can always pop them in the food bank collection so they won’t waste if we don’t use them

Both my DD's were a good weight (8lb5 and 7lb9) yet both very small in stature. We have newest DD in size 0 nappies, but size 1 worked too when that was all we had.
I took a few sized babygros in - tiny baby (boots), newborn and up to 1 month, just because I didn't know what shape she'd be and they all seem to size differently - some longer in the body, some wider.
