Five weeks left and I can't cope - any tips for the end stretch?

I'm 31 weeks with MCDA twins and due to deliver by elcs on week 36.

I can't do another whole five weeks. I just feel so defeated thinking about it. I'm exhausted. I'm always in pain. I'm always short of breath.

I really want my babies and so happy to be having twins, but this is the toughest thing I've ever done.

How do we cope on the last few weeks?

Anyone at all? Any second timers who have been through this?

I've not had twins, but didn't want to leave you unanswered.
Are you working? If so it might be time to call it a day.
Take each day (or hour...) at a time. 5 weeks seems like ages but it is made up of days, and you can manage a day, then another.
Have you talked to your midwife about how you are feeling? She most likely has good advice. And are you plugged in to TAMBA? If they have a meet-up near you I'm sure other twin mums will have lots of good advice to share.
Try and plan in lots of lovely tiny treats to keep you going- you will know what you like, but for me it's things like a new magazine or some nice bath oil, meeting up with a good friend (who can come to you with takeaway!), some really nice chocolate (the coop has lovely dark choc which is pretty indulgent without breaking the bank).
Swimming/aqua aerobics (or even just baths) are good at the end. It's just so nice to have the water take the weight of your bump, and was one of my mini treats once I stopped work too.
You can do this!!!

I stopped work at 29 weeks.

I would love a bath, but lm not sure I could get back out. My bump is ginormous

How you doing today @Cosmogirl86?

cliare · 02/07/2019 21:12

Hello...

I haven't had twins but had a very large baby and was absolutely miserable by 36 weeks... feeling huge, sore, not sleeping, restless legs... anyway, can only imagine how hard it must be with twins so you definitely have my sympathies. I found writing a to do list at the beginning of each day helped a bit... gave me a bit of momentum to get through the day without moping around! I also did long tedious jobs like organising photos and old cds... stuff you cant do with a baby. Nice small treats like lone cinema trips and having your hair cut. And seeing pals.

All the best for these last few weeks. Im pregnant again and already worried about the end bit. Sending my sympathies!

@NicciLovesSundays thank you so much for checking in. I'm still very fed up with things, and the heatwave isn't helping. However I was at the the consultant today and I got my date confirmed for ELCS so I feel slightly better having an end goal in sight!

Lots of naps is helping, and also very cool showers. Plus I started knitting tiny baby items which cheers me up!

32 weeks with #2 here. I definitely didn't find it this hard first time around... I'm finishing work in 2.5 weeks which I thought was a bit early because I worked until 38 weeks last time, but am contemplating throwing the towel in early. I'm not sure it'll be any easier at home with a toddler full time though.
You have my sympathies with two in there. That's got to be tough. I would nap plenty, arrange a few lunch dates to keep you busy, and generally not put any pressure on yourself to do anything. Also could you get a haircut, massage etc ? It might help to feel pampered.

@Cosmogirl86
I would love to be able to knit or to crochet. Thinking of trying to do a basic baby blanket but will have to get started soon if I want it to be finished any time before the end of the year :)
The heat is pretty draining. I have heard some people fill hot water bottles and freeze them to get a bit of relief - if its very hot where you are this might help.

Cosmogirl86 · 03/07/2019 10:22

The cold water bottle idea actually is a good idea. I'll try that!

The pain in my back and breathlessness unfortunately just seems to be part of the course for twins
