Pregnancy sickness - what to do about work?

I'm 7 weeks pregnant with my second and finding it so tough. Nausea is pretty much constant and I'm sick most days. It's much worse when I travel anywhere especially on the tube.

I'm so torn on what to do about work, I know if I take time off I will feel horribly guilty as there is so much going on and I will feel like I'm really landing everyone in it. But I've been in tears with the stress and worry of trying to struggle through the next week.

If you're ill then you're ill, don't feel guilty.

Book a doctors appointment - they can give you anti sickness tablets.
Also make sure you eating (I know it's really hard) and drinking plenty, especially in this weather.

Get yourself to the doctor
They can give you meds and sign you off
Do not worry about work
They will just have to cope without you. Your health and your baby are the priority

Doctor, meds, get signed off.

I had some nausea with my first, no time off work. With my second I've been horrendously ill and only stopped vomiting at 19 weeks. I was signed off for 5 weeks (1 week self cert followed by 2x 2weeks signed off by gp) at the worst of it. The meds stopped me being constantly sick but didn't make me well enough to work. I was literally laid in bed all day trying to sip cold squash and living off crisps.

Don't waste time feeling guilty. It's a job not your best mate's wedding. Wink

I know you're all right. I just can't shake the feeling that I'll be letting everyone down, it's such a busy time. I don't know if my boss will be understanding Sad I did tell him last week that I was pregnant and struggling and we agreed I could work from home more but then he started saying he definitely needed me in the office on x,y,z days and I just don't think I can do it.

Do the meds help with nausea or just vomiting? As the vomiting is awful but it's the nausea which is even worse.

I found the anti sickness medication only stopped me throwing up, I still felt nauseous 24/7. I have a very physical job and on my feet all day and I'm really struggling too so I know how you feel.

I wanted to ask too, I didn’t think there were any meds to help nausea? (Or at least that’s what the doc said with last pg)
I’m only vomiting 1-2 times/day but the nausea is really limiting what I can do.
Just about managing at work but had one day off last week.
Does anyone know of meds that have worked for nausea?
Have already tried buccastem

I'm self employed and work form home. I had to take the hit financially (no sick pay) and just do minimal/lie on the sofa dying most days.

Some of sickness and bloat/uncomfortableness were related to heartburn and indigestion. Even sips of water caused burning and sickness. I couldn't keep food down after eating. Gaviscon did nothing. The GP prescribed me omeprosole and it helped so much. Just throwing it out there in case it sounds similar. X

Just like Dec2019mumtobe, I'm self-employed and had to take quite a hit. I took 2 weeks off unpaid (weeks 7-9) when the nausea was at its worst and I couldn't even get out of bed.

I've been taking antiemetics since week 5. They do help with the nausea if you take enough but it didn't disappear in my case. I live abroad and you can take up to 4 a day of the pills you get here. The problem is that, because technically they are antihistamines, the more you take, the drowsier you are so you are no good for work anyway! I had to find a happy medium between sleepiness and nausea I could cope with.

If I were you, I would get the pills ASAP and make another appt for a week later. If you are still suffering too much to work, then you can get signed off. In the meantime, maybe tell your boss you either need to work from home this week or you'll have to get signed off.

I told my work at 8 weeks as I was the same as you. I had to take 2 days off as I couldn't bear the travelling and stress at work. I decided to tell them which is the best thing I did. They have now allowed me to work from home twice a week so I don't have to travel in and I don't feel I am letting them down. I knew it was early and I didn't particularly feel comfortable with it but I was like you feeling horrendous 24/7 and it's such a relief to be able to get up later those 2 days and not have to travel.
